Default I NEED BOOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (beaten by SRT-4)

Yesterday on my way home from work, a Dodge Neon SRT-4 came zipping through traffic to try and get in front of me. Stock, they are pretty quick little cars, but I have had no problems beating them in a high speed roll on. I didn't think that this would be any different. When we got to a nice clear section of highway, he put the hammer down, and I followed suit. We started off at around 75 mph, up to around 125, and he absolutely walked away from me. I gave him a big thumbs up, and went home with my tail between my legs. I'm definitely not used to losing a roll on run like that. I'm sure he had to have had the Mopar Performance Stage 3 kit on it, but still, I didn't like losing to a Sport Compact. I definitely need to pump about 7-8 psi of boost into the Beast, so I can keep current with todays modern cars. I envy all you Boostards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sux. I don't mind being beaten by other newer, faster Porsches, but a turbo-Dodge?? That would hurt.

ouch... thats why I tend to avoid such opportunities cause I dont have any boost at all cept the AA chip. Hoping that DR's Mod X pipe will add a bit more umph when I add mine, once its available cause I need all the help I can get & dont see an SC or turbo anywhere on the horizon for me.

My old neighbor had one of those SRT-4s.

He had a few go fast goodies on it, and he was running like a 12.86 or something.

Don't feel bad. They're pretty fast cars, even if they are gay n' ugly.

Yes. Stock SRT4 0-60 is 5.8sec, so I assume stock 75-125 is slower also. But the point these days is, automotive engineering has caught up with our cars that are 20 years old. I suppose that's not too bad eh? .... the thing to me remains, do I want a Dodge Neon that can beat the pants off my 928 or do I want a Porsche 928? We can't beat 'em all unless we keep up (by huffing etc) and give our cars the same benefits. A new SRT4 stocker costs $22k MSRP and mods are extra. I'd say for that much you could get a 928 that could beat the pants off a Neon and still be a sexy, exciting, classy car.

I came to a light a few months ago and one of these Neons pulled up next to me with its huge briefcase handle on the back. We both nailed the throttle and I was ahead 2 car lengths by 60, at which point he *quickly* started gaining on me. We both let off soon afterward.

Well said....plus a straight highway isn't a ractrack either! But anyway you look at it, the SRT4 is still a dodge neon (which they won't make next year...so even dodge knows they are tired)

Dodge does have a history of making compact 4 door turbos that are quick...they made a mid 90's 4 door turbo...odd looking car...I think it was the spirit or something like that...but it had a turbo 4 banger and made way more power than several sports cars of the day!

Anyone remember a fugly hunk of Detroit Steel that beat the pants off one of the most historic sportscars of all time way back in the day? ...... I think it was called Gran Tourismo Omologato

That would be the Dodge Colt Turbo.

Good Morning H!
I'm afraid you are passing along one of those "urban legends". Please see http://www.web-cars.com/gto/cd-gto_gto.php

Don't feel bad there are a lot of small cars out there with grunt. They will never match up to the 928 in class or style. This coming from a GTI owner.

Be carefull you don't run into one of these. At least it's German BTW that was a leased car with stock internals on a 1.8turbo above ^^^ They pulled everything off it and returned it to VW at the end of the lease. Don't wanna buy one of those.

I remember that car...ugly as all hell....but this 4 door came after the colt....the 1992 Spirit RT...2.2L turbo with 224hp! I drove one of those back then...it was quick...brutal torque steer when the boost came on, but quick since it only weighed 3000lbs!

The VW GTI's are a fun car to drive...handle well, ride good, have a quality feel to them (not all plasticky like american cars) & have a good sporty feel...good cars for the price..the R32 is a serious ride, for a stock car. I had a 2002 VR6 GTI for a couple years...(sold it to get the 928)...nice car. Not a 928, but a fun daily driver type car
