Chris at the height of its career my 299rwhp/299rwtq S4 5spd was banged by a measly 1.8t Jetta. It's all about timing, the right gear, boost and such.

That turbo van is QUICK.....I guess if the kids are bitching to much in the back you just stomp on it....that will shut them up real quick!

I ran dead even with an SRT4 several months ago at the drag strip. I will have to try and dig up the time slip. He beat me by .1 sec or somehting. Wasnt much, but it doesnt have to be much to get the light at the end of the 1/4 mile.
The guy with the best time slip...wins, right!
His car was fast, but it was the fastest SRT4 there.

there are a bunch of sleeper cars out there that will eat a 928 for lunch as well as other modern sports cars.
You have to rememebr, you win some, you loose some.
The car is not invincible...but its fun trying to make it that way..

It floored teh guy when i told him that this is 154,000 mile daily driver that is over 18yrs old! Thats what i love. Come back in 18yrs with your SRT

Rarely happens on the street.

You can work the hell out of those little 1.8Ts too. Nasty little beasts when they're properly prepped. Getting ANY gasoline powered turbo to go fast is ridiculously easy though.

I took my 928 to a the track one time and Raced three cars: A slightly modified WRX, A newer Cobra and a 60's Camaro. The Cobra and Camaro both were marked as 12 second cars, and mine had a huge 14 on the window, why they made me race those guys, I'll never know... But the WRX was my first drag race at a track with the lights and all and i had a terrible reaction time (over 1 second.) The WRX beat me by a little less than a second. After the race the guy came up and said, hey nice car, blah blah blah, my dad had one, blah blah and then I asked him if his was a 5 speed... Of course he responded yes, then nearly crapped himself when i told him mine was automatic. I wish i had a second try with all the things i know now (such as not starting off with the car in "D" instead of "2".) That race should have been mine.

IIRC the SRT-4 could run a 1-2 sec. faster ET with a $1.50 mod, I think it was just a minor vac plumbing change....
Probably disengaging the wastegate. You'd have to be running rocket fuel to fight the detonation from so much boost, but I know people with turbo cars who use this technique at the strip. But it's definitely not something you can drive around the street on 24/7.

On the 1.8T issue...the typical "Stage 3" kit can net mid-12 second ET's with the right rubber. That's about $3200.

As far as the Neons go...forget the straight line. They handle like absolute CRAP. I say battle them in the curves. That's their weak spot.

Bill,

I have not had a C6 owner that went for it as yet.. Surely will happen sooner or later..

Chris,

The 3rd gear in a 5spd is where things get interesting... I wish my 4spd auto was a 5spd auto...

Anyway, once the project stuff is ready, I think these little incidents will be fewer...

Cheers,

That's the TOTAL OPPOSITE of what I read and heard about the SRT-4. They are supposed to be a really good package. If you can disregard the brand name for a sec and look at the car as a whole ,they have excellent handling and quick in acceleration, all this for under $25K!
