Herr Kuhn, you sure did offer it to me, but from a financial standpoint I couldn't do it. Besides, If I had the $9K that you were asking at the time, I would have already had one of Tim's or Andy's S/C system installed. Been drooling over all of you boost heads tales of acceleration for 3 years or so, wishing my finances would improve enough so that I could partake in the fun. Soon though, hopefully. I'm planning to do my own rear mount turbo set-up. Primarily, because I "think" I can put it all together for under $1500.00, which fits better into my current budget. Good luck with your S4 project. I can't wait to see the results, both dyno and 0-60/ or 1/4 mile. It should be impressive. Cheers,

Chris,

Maybe your wing is putting too much drag into the aerodynamic equation... I have run on those little neons, and they stop at their wall at about 135 mph.. The most surprising jaunt I had was from a VW Jetta with a very boosted motor.. He kept up and agined all the way to 145 mph.. I was beat by a New GTO that I think had a blower, because he just walked away from me a little too quickly.. I was also demolished by a Murcielago... He caught up, and just walked away from me at 150+mph didn't see him coming... Then he was gone....

It was precisely at that moment that I decided to seriously start my project... Yes, it's still not yet done, but I have some time set aside soon to continue and try to finish it up..

Anyway, good Luck with the rear turbo..

Cheers,

I think it's totally possible to make one for under $1500. The most expensive part, besides the turbo, will be the oil pump. They cost around $300-$400. Make sure you get the proper one. You don't want to fry the turbo with a crapped out pump.

Do a search on google for "diy turbo", there is a ton of info on there.

Is it a home built system? Turbo, SC or N/A?

The 05's are 6.0 liter LS-2s @ 400hp. They're no joke either.

"The 05's are 6.0 liter LS-2s @ 400hp. They're no joke either."

I am aware of this.. It also had a 6 spd close ratio box.. However, as it is a Vette motor, and they (Corvettes) do not walk away as fast, this one was presumed to be blown or hopped up in some way.. My car dyno's at 270-275 RWHP = 345-350 CHP allowing for 20% driveline losses... It does not have trouble keeping up with a Vette.... Even with being short 50 CHP than the LS-2...

Run with one of the new C-6 vettes yet? I presume they'll have the same performance as the C-5 Zo6's did.

It's amazing how many fast cars are on the market nowadays. It's even better than the 60s in some ways.

Blau, the wing definitely does add some drag, but hasn't stopped me from beating plenty-o-cars so far. The SRT-4 was only the 3rd car in 6 years to beat me in a high speed roll-on. (not to say that plenty of other cars can't do it, just that most of the capable ones don't try) Now, off the line is a different story. Through 1st and 2nd gear, even a well prepped N/A Honda can hang. Once I hit 3rd though, I "usually" leave the competitors in the dust. The wing actually has helped me win a few on my favorite stretch of road. There is a brand new, little used highway right beside my subdivision. I like to run from the stoplight to the next intersection, which is approximately 1 mile. Has elevation changes, straights, high speed sweepers, etc..... This to me is a true test of driver and car's full capabilities. Not just straight line acceleration. Even if they outpower me on the straights, I usually blow by them in the sweepers. Good fun.

Green, I was telling a guy here at work about the SRT-4, and he told me the same car beat him over the weekend. He's got a T/A WS-6 also. I felt better that I wasn't the only one. Now he's looking into the STS rear turbo system.

Chris,

Just add several psi to the mix and all will be well. Best of both worlds-killer straight line accelleration and still handles well in the turns. Trust me, GT's are very quick with boost. Just pick your method, choices are great.

Thanks Jim and Gretch. I've been following both of your experiences closely, since you both have '89 GT's. I'm extremely envious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to add some forced induction.
