What does the fuel pressure dampner do on a US spec engine?

Drifting
I believe all dampners take the fuel being pumped in from the tank under pump pressure (85 psi) and knock it down to rail type pressure and maybe even smooth it out.

Just FYI...
The damper is located before the injectors. The pressure regulator (technically a 'relief valve' but Bosch calls them regulators) is at the end of the rail and serves to regulate pressure.
The damper's function is to mitigate the pressure waves from the roller-cell pump. Since L/LH are bank-fire scenarios, Bosch felt that any minor pressure variations in the rail would be handled by the regs at the end of the rail.
If you need more info, there's a couple of other posts on this subject, just search it.
