My 85 was at 3050 in strreet trim before my SC install. Probably picked up a few pounds.

HP to weight ratio somewhere in the 6. ? to 1.

Hi Glen,

At 3349#, it was with the rollcage, complete interior, etc. Basically nothing removed some extra weight @150# bolted under the passenger seat.

Mine was 2697 with about 11 gallons of gas when weighed at the Sebring race.
Rear bumper was in, so there is another 25Lbs (out now!).
So I'm just over 2600

Interesting. I have a complete GTS engine with accessories, but no radiator, and I'll try to put it on some sort of scale. Won't be for a while though

Mark,

That is impressive assuming you still have both bumpers in, not to mention the visual interior stuff. I wonder why my car isn't much lighter, especially as mine has the S motor which is known to be lighter than the S4 motor...

No bumpers! You kidding, those were the first things to go! (both this racer and my old S version)

I have a gutted version of the center console and the fakie plastic dash with supports. Looks fairly stock from 15 feet away! the radio, subwoofer and speakers all come out along with the door panels and glass on race day.

its very gutted besides the 5lb center console and stock steering wheel and stock guages. ive stripped wiring out,and that saved a wooping 5lbs over a winter. Ive cut the battery box out (15-20lbs or so) and mounted the 14lb battery in the rear passenger side seat area.

if it was an S model, i guess it would be 2625 or so with the same mods.

3440 with a full tank. Essentially bone stock except for the Cup wheels. No specific effort to lighten it, but a couple of projects have trimmed pounds here and there. IIRC I saved about 7 pounds on my AC conversion, and about 2 pounds on my cooling fan conversion, though these were incidental benefits -- not goals of the projects.

Mark,

So you drive on the streets with no bumpers? I hope you have good life insurance

Interesting and disappointing that mine is still 2650# then, and I have all the same reductions and more....

Put it this way, i had the same set up as you with my old 84 part euro 5 liter.
it was the same weight, however, i didnt have all the fine tuning light weight stuff on it like light weight starter, and lots of sheet metal and things like battery box removed. same fakey center panel and dash though. (and pod)

yes, on the streets with no bumpers. actually, its probably safer, more transfer of energy at a less rapid rate, but more damage. (in some cases, less in others) for example, ever see andersons hit at las vegas at 170mph??? it totally pushed in the rear bumper without the internal bumper. guess what, he got to the pits and just pushed it back out. a hit like that with bumpers may have put him in a worse spin and may have damaged the frame rails.

in the front, i did have a fender bender on the way home from a race in 2001. dont know if the bumper would have lessened the damage. probably in this case it would have. any big impact up front, will do damage to the frame rails with or without a bumper. my big accident at laguna in '01, (into the wall at 70mph) had no front bumper. the frame did a good job absorbing the energy and so did the frame. a front bumper may have only made the impact felt a little harder from a driver perspective. however, the frame still would have been bent, so the chassis was junk.

dont be disapointed. thats about right 2650. did you put in lightweight starter, remove metal around the side speaker panels, remove the battery box (fuel cell , right?) get rid of all fuse box mumbojumbo? lightweight battery (14lbs)?
etc. scot has done much of this with his 82, and he is at about 2670 right now, and still could get down lighter with starter, cutting, shocks/springs, etc

I think the S4 engine itself is only 50lbs heavier at most.

Anthony,

Who performed the corner balance and alignment?. What was the cost if you don't mind me asking?
I am also in NJ. I normally have Eurotire in Fairfield perform those functions on my 78 SC. I just purchased a set of Koni adjustables on ebay and will need them installed on my 86 S. The car still has the original Boge's with one leaking oil.

Thanks Rich

Hi Mark,

I have the lightweight starter, lightweight alternator and lightweight battery. The fuel cell installation eliminated the battery box. Wiring is minimal, no fuse panel. I don't have ANY interior, just two seats.

I do have the splitter and wing, although I don't think either as very heavy. I do have some more cutting to do, around the rear speakers though.

Of course my initial surprise was that I thought your car was much closer to stock. I wonder why that was
