Im more worried about that e-brake mechanism, than the torquing . that will be easy. torque it as hard as i can, and then drive over to CT an have them use their $400 torque wrench! the hard part will be putting the ebrake cable assembly back together. i barely got it apart, and there is no room to work in there. I may end up putting it together without it. Ill let you know how it goes.
sure does feel good to have that big bearing replaced!!
the guys at the shop were laughing on how big the thing is! man that 928 has big Ball.... bearings.

I cant believe it! I thought thats what gutted 928s sounded like on the inside! its now, as quiet as a mouse. i wonder if all that damage to the rear wheel bearing was robbing HP. sure seems like it is a possibility! it was real loud, i thought it was rolling vibration with the tires and some of the gearing noise from the gear box that ive abused for 4 full seasons now. turns out, it was all wheel bearing noise! probably from that hit in World challenge. just took 3 years to get real bad. I tell you , these 928s are made like tanks!

Way to go Mark! Good to have "das Boot" out of drydock, eh? Now go kick some tail!
BTW, yes the bad bearing was definitely robbing you of power. Whether it was robbing a significant or measurable amount is a different story. You've mentioned that the car's power output has been dropping... why not get a fresh dyno run? Do you have a recent set of pulls you can compare to?

Yes, im glad i finally went a couple of months ago, as i found the flappy not working based on the dyno run. then, fixed the wires to the flappy solinoid, which were probably broken when we were feverishly wrenching on the timing belt after it slipped at speedGT laguna last season. (i think it flappy wires broke there) the car felt flat then, and before then a couple of months earlier, we did a brake dyno with Tom and got the slightly lower numbers . (318ish vs 335hp original) . recently got the dyno run of 322 again, so its not fallen off that much in a couple of years now, and over 4 , its down 13ish hp. that could have been to that bearing. thats why i wanted to do coast down dyno runs too, but the operator alwasys is hurrying me off the dyno! (it would have showed up there!) fixed the flappy before the last couple of races an my times are back to my best range. Id like go go again and see the difference now with flappy and wheel bearing fixed. It sure is a huge audible difference now. I really thought all this time it was the tires rubbing or the gear box just getting old.
