Bill, IIRC solid brown is ground and the brown/white (actually I thought t was brown/red) is the switched power. If you need me to check I can probably go out and take a pic.

OK, the multimeter I'm using is goofy. I tapped into the door light brown/white. It worked.
I pimped my ride!

Hey, I was going to do this mod, but my interior lights aren't working with the door switches. I replaced the passenger switch, cleaned all the contacts, but the light works when switched on, but not when door is opened. How can I use a multimeter or test light to figure out what is up? '81 USA AT

Scott - do they work when the rear hatch is open? If yes check the interior light delay relay if you have one.

They do not work when the rear hatch is open.

Additional tidbit - as mentioned earlier, the unlit white-light EL units are PINK. And PINK shows through the sill when the unit is not lit. It was thought this would not be a problem, since the unit is always lit when the door is opened.

Well, surprise, it also shows PINK when lit in daylight, contrary to previous comments. The reflected light, even on a dim, overcast day, overwhelms the white emissions. At first I thought my wiring had failed, but when I shaded the unit I could see it was emitting. Since it's rather bright at night, I am thinking of putting a thin white semitransparent layer over the EL to block the light reflection.

Interesting Bill, too bad Nicole already has the stainless steel door sill inserts... the pink would match her interior.

Hey, hey, I read that!!! My interior only looks pink on pictures taken with a flashlight!

Hey Bill: That's pretty cool - can't wait to see this in action. As discussed, we'll combine this with the stainless end pieces for a true 21st century look.

I did this mod a long time ago and my passenger side has went out. I went to eBay to Lumi-Line or global.asset.sales and he is has no items for sale anymore. Does anyone have an alternate supplier for these?
