Default Supercharger Progress

Not sure if anyone knows (cares); I have been installing Andy' s Supermodel kit on my 1987 S4. The kit is a Jag Eaton blower with intercooler. More or less the same as Seth's.

I haven't put the car on the dyno yet, but it feels way more powerful. I am currently sorting through several issues that include rough idle, belts rubbing, etc.

Here are a couple shots of the SC install and car. I hade persistent vacuum leaks so I welded the intake section together - right to the throttle body. I plan to polish this part soon. I also used a different throttle cable arrangement.

I am still toying withthe air intake system. I think I am going the hood scoop route with a flat k&N filter. It will be custom fabbed - that's for sure. Stay tuned for dyno update and finished photos.

You should powdercoat the supercharger red, like your valve covers!

Well, it's better to get it all installed and functioning, then take parts off for chrome, polish, paint, powder, etc...

It looks good so far!

Ought to be a lot of fun!

Hey, we all care, keep us updated and post any questions you have. Its all for progress!

I haven't put the car on the dyno yet, but it feels way more powerful. I am currently sorting through several issues that include rough idle, belts rubbing, etc.
It does, you will find thats true off boost(partial throttle) as well it seems.
Ive traced all my idle issues to air leaks so far. Now that they are gone i plan on reinstalling my 30# injectors to see what if anything changes . My rubbing belts were solved by either a differnt type bolt (allen head), differnt size..or..a few seconds with a grinder..or all of the above

Here are a couple shots of the SC install and car. I hade persistent vacuum leaks so I welded the intake section together - right to the throttle body. I plan to polish this part soon. I also used a different throttle cable arrangement.
NICE! Just add a a dash of color to the intake track or the SC and it will set it off even better! Ive become partial to red on the engine!
uh.. yeah, welding will cure your airleaks, be careful it doest warp the metal or your back to square one! Make sure your welds are air tight also and are done by some one who knows aluminum. If there isnt enough penetration in the weld it could fatigue and crack under the cycling of boost.

I am still toying withthe air intake system. I think I am going the hood scoop route with a flat k&N filter. It will be custom fabbed - that's for sure. Stay tuned for dyno update and finished photos
Looks good already. I found that getting the basic set up running and tuned first then going on to other areas is the best approach. That way if a problem crops up its easy to track and trouble shoot from something you did/changed.

What boost is it set to run at?

Welcome to the club
Please keep us updated we all have vested intrest in the andvancement of 928 Hp!!

Hi Adam:

Did welding the intake track help with the rough idle? I have some idle issues too, but I find it hard to blame the rubber boots you replaced with the welds. How did you verify they were leaking?

I replaced the fan shroud with the DEVEK model, so I now have a couple of inches of vertical space across the top of the radiator in which to route a large intake fed from a larger box in the area in front of that.

Keep up the good work!

Bill,

There are two South Florida GT owners who would be interested in what you are doing with your air intake. Can you share more?

Cameron:

I have nothing to share yet. If you look at Blown Beast's car, that is the basis for what I am doing. There are pictures somewhere on Rennlist. Sorry I've got to get to work and can't track them down now.

Tony - Thanks for the tips. My aluminum was welded by a local pro. Took an our just weld the throttle body on so it wouldn't warp. - Phase 2, polished!

Bill:

I've mentioned this to Andy as well, but in MY PERSONAL application, I found that the way the throttle cable lined up wanted to yank the hose clamps ever so slightly. This caused little air leaks that were found with WD40. As a matter of fact, I sprayed the stuff and THEN took the hose clamps off only to find the WD well inside of the hoses and elbows. The clamps were on very tight as well. Frankly I plagiarized the idea of welding them together from a Murph kit (yes, I know he has compressed air in that line). It looks like the kit more or less should have from the get go.

I've also dispensed with the throttle cable crossover : The go pedal is hooked up right to the throttle body.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

Thanks to Andy Keel for his hard work in making the kit.

Your throttle cable routing change is good. Looks better than my idea.

Murph still had at least two rubber boots on the intake on the compressed side with the kits I have seen. Has he changed that recently?

Adam,

You guys amaze me.

I guess you lose the automatic ticket avoidance device (aka cruise control) with that set up? Anything else?
