No frowns from me
.... I've eaten a twin-turbo Zcar for lunch on occasion. They have lovely acceleration but no low-end torque, and at the end of the day they run out of steam too.

You are Oh so right. I love it when in your peripheral vision you see their side window slide out of sight,,, then the hood,,, then they move to the mirrors. Then you can left foot tap the brakes,, so they know you've just won.

In the 2 days I have had the car back I have had every Z type car very calmly pull over to let me pass.
I even had a G35 a 350Z who were being sporting with each other, I wouldn't say racing... get calm all of a sudden as I approached and no kidding moved over.
This car has so much power I don't need to leave 4th for much on the highway.

It is kinda frustrating though.....not many will actually take Gretch on......
Those 350Zs are interesting though. I ran into one once on the highway in my C4 and knew better than to take it on. That was another situation where I was wishing I was driving Gretch that moment......

Took a 300ZX TT on in my mates S4 auto, took a while to get past as I'd not driven an auto for years and basically forgot how they work. By 140 mph it was all over for the 300ZX, bless 'im.

from the 300zx list....." last night I was late for work driving my ZX on rt #6 NEAR BRISTOL trying to make up some time ,I quickly came up behind an old Porsche he was doing about 50 mph ,must have been half asleep. I tried to pass several times but there was just too much traffic coming the other way. Finally we came to the uphill grade with the slow truck lane and the guy got the hint and moved to the right so I stepped on it to get around BUT the guy down shifts floors it and runs it up over 80 mph and pulls back in front of me at the top of the hill and slows back down on the one lane road !!! . I tried a couple more times to pass but still too much traffic. Thankfully he eventually turns off. And yes I was late for work." ................... expletives deleted
............ OK, it is fiction but you have to wonder what the driver of the ZX was thinking, he was obviously pedaling faster and wanted to continue to do so. And people wonder why road rage happens ......

I took on a 350Z recently and it was pretty close up to 80mph. We were rolling from a stoplight, so I had a 2nd gear start which didn't help me off the line. From the start he had a slight lead (a little more than one car length) that I was overtaking, but we were approaching a truck and a trailer (in his lane) and I started slowing down because I figured he wanted to blow over into my lane, and I didn't want to jeopardize anyone's safety by forcing him to decide whether to change lanes or do some emergency braking. He ended up not understanding that I was trying to be courteous and jammed on the brakes anyway. Those cars are pretty quick off the line. With a first gear start, I think I'd leave him behind no problem--these 4speed autos with 2.20 gears don't have to shift too much.
On an entirely different note, as I was driving up to Willow Springs last tuesday night, I saw a new Carrera GT--didn't even have plates on it yet. He tucked in behind me at a pretty respectable distance, and we were in fairly heavy traffic on the 5. I was thinking, hey pal, this is no ordinary 928; I might hang in there better than you think, and I'm hoping I get a chance to show you.
When I saw an opening to my right, I dropped into 3rd and puched it, thinking that I would maybe take him by surprise. The joke was on me. By the time I was able to look in my rearview mirror--and I was scooting pretty good and still accelerating--he was moving up so fast on me it was unreal.
As I said, I was moving right along--I had the SC belt really tight and was making 9lbs of boost, and I was overtaking a car on my right. My guess is that he was planning to move over and pass me on the right as I moved past the car I was currently overtaking. I further postulate that even he misjudged how quickly he was overtaking me, because he was caught up to me and had to jam the brakes before I had completely overtaken the car. There was no room for him to go by.
Needless to say, I was chagrined and humbled. While I haven't yet dynoed the car, I should be putting down somewhere around 400/400 to the rear wheels, compared to the GT specs of 600 hp and 475 tq (which I would assume to be at the crank). I guess the difference of 500 lbs, two cylinders, 200 hp, and $390k accounts for more than I appreciated.

Curt, if that was one of the new 400Hp vettes then he was just playing. If it had exposed headlights, it was the newer one and you wouldn't stand a chance.

To Jim's point, it helps avoid misunderstandings if the other guy knows he is in a race......

Well... here's what i've got from memory...
'00 Mustang GT: I've toyed with at least 3 of these. I can't believe how slow they are. Its also funny how the drivers *think* that they're driving fast cars. I especially like to embarrass these when there's a hot girl in the passenger seat.
'88 Mustang GT: I was taking my girlfriend ice skating after dinner for valentine's day. We're approaching the LAX airport (going under the tunnel) and there is this 30-something year old guy in a mustang GT. It looks stripped down, had massive tires in the back, had a roll cage, and sounded pretty mean. I had been driving next to him for like 4-5 traffic lights, and he would look at me and take off at EVERY light. At the light just before the tunnel, I turn to my girlfriend and say "Uh... do you mind?" and she said "I guess not...". He actually kept up to about 35-40mph, but then he had to shift into 2nd and dropped back a car length. From there, I continued to pull on him.
'05 Mustang: Some guy who thought he was hot **** in his new Mustang. It wasn't even a GT. I probably shouldn't even consider this a kill.
'04 WRX STI: Ok, this thing surprised me. He was speeding around in his brand new STI and made a turn onto an empty street. I came up from behind and gradually made my way to WOT. He nailed it too and was surprisingly RIGHT behind me all through first gear. During 2nd gear, he was still right behind me (not loosing any ground), but started to fall back as I got half way through 2nd gear. At this point I shutdown because it started getting unsafe.
'00+ G35: These are just silly. I've wiped the floor with at least 3 of them. The best part is the look on the face.
'00+ 350Z: These are about the same as the G35, but on this one particular event... I was waiting at a red light. There was a right-turn-only lane just to my right. Just as the light turned green, a brand new 350z (high-performance model) zoomed by in the right lane and cut in front of me. I remember saying to myself "Oh no you dont!". So I caught up to him pretty quickly and he was waiting for me. It was a very long stretch of straight empty road on PCH near my place. He was staring at me in his side-view mirror. I was probably doing 3500 rpms in 2nd gear. Just as i got to his door, he nailed it so I did too. Just before hitting 3rd gear, I had at least a car length on him. I shutdown and cruised at about 40mph then switched into his (the right) lane. He went to the left lane and came up on my side. I was trying to give the guy a thumbs-up, but his "female" in the passenger seat gave me the DIRTIEST look ever. We both stopped at a red light. I let him get about a 1-second jump which put him a full car length ahead of me. By the end of first gear I was even with him, by the end of second gear I had already put 2 carlengths on him.
'98 Mustang Cobra: Homeboy saw me coming up from behind. He waited until I was even and nailed it. I did the same and slowly began pulling away. I had almost 2 carlengths on him before I shutdown.
LT1 Trans-Am: Guy comes to a stop light with me. Has a bunch of girls in his car. He looks at me and yells "Is that a POOOORSHA?" (i think he was making fun of me). So I said "You know what... I think it might be!". So I tookoff when the light turned green and he tried to follow but couldn't. At the next light, he said "Hey! That's cheating! You gotta let me know when you're about to go!". So I said "Oh sorry. I'm letting you know right now". Light turns green and I probably had a full length on him after 1st gear. It was almost a waste of time. At the next light, I said "Yup! That's definately a Porsche!".
'00+ Mustang Mach1: Same story as the Cobra I mentioned earlier. He saw me coming up from behind, nailed it when I got to his door, and I had a couple lengths on him before I shutdown.
'99 E36 M3: My best friend just picked one up. At any lower speeds, its pointless to race. His car is actually pretty quick above 100mph tho... I have a much harder time pulling away.
'80+ Ferrari 308 GTS: I was leaving auto class and I saw this thing pulling out of another driveway. I followed it for like 20 miles down into san pedro. Guy finally gave me a run on the freeway. It was much faster than I thought it was, but I still pulled away. I think they're very light cars, but not alot of power.
