Yeah, what was funny was when I went by him, I was thinking it was a "riced out" Honda and didn't notice it was a WRX until I started to reel him in. It really was pretty strong but when I shifted into 3rd (being even at 6200 in 2nd), I just left him.

Not impressive at all since a "stock" car can do a 14.4? Typical turbo powerband though...impressive on boost, sad without it! I'll take the big multivalve V8 anyday!

I may have the exact mph ranges off, I maybe off by 10mph either way on the top end, but yes it's true and pretty impressive.

Hey guys, I just picked up my first kill last night...

I was heading down the highway when I came up on one of those Mitsubishi 3000 GT things. It was night, so I can't say which model, but it had some flashy chromies and a big exhaust.

We were both in traffic, but I went by him and noticed him jump right out behind me, so I figured it was about to happen. I had one car in front of me, but an otherwise open road for a mile or so. Once the car in front of me pulled over, I passed him, pulled to the right lane, and dropped to "3", waiting for the Mitsu to pull up aggressively. Which he did.

I waited until his A pillar was in my window (that's fair right? I mean he was on the boil, and I hadn't done this before either...) and then floored it from about 4k something RPM and 75-80mph. His progress was quickly arrested.

I could barely hear his engine over the roar of my RMB, but by about 100, it was clear I was gonna take it, and by 120 his front end was slipping by my rear quarter. We shut down at about 125 or so.

Traffic came up again, so I pulled to the left in front of him, and once it cleared, pulled right again for another go. Same scenario, same results.

He took the next exit off, but it had been a pretty cool episode for me, since it was my first time! I don't know anything about the capabilities of those cars, but it definitely put a good run in from 80-120, so I'm guessing it must have been a turbo.

It was fun, in any case.

Raced a Yamaha V-max from 55 to 100, don't know which year it was, but he started at about 1 car length in front of me and stayed there the whole time.
Then I came across a subaru outback limited, don't know the hp on those. We started at 50 and ran till 105 , he gradulally lost ground and I was about 4-5 cars in front at the end of that one.

Warren,
My guess is he was just waiting to see what your shark would do. ANY year V-Max, straight line, is NOT to be played with.

The Venture Royale's were a tuned- DOWN version of those engines, and those were still pretty quick, full barge loaded! I had a Venture, and at 90-100, it was still just loping along, starting to come on-song! Much above that, and the fairing, bags, windsheild, and wimpy forks, would cause the front end to become light, and the whole works would start to shimmy wickedly!

But the V-Max, in either the 1200cc, or 1300cc version, will do the quarter mile, in under ten seconds! That V-4 mill had plenty of torque!

Check out this video of a 911 turbo v. 928 on nitrous. Pretty cool.

Yeah me too. Looks like the 928 took the 911 on the big end. Pretty impressive wheel smoke through the shifts as well. Seems to me the 911 only got the jump due to being much lighter but the big V8 was impressive even if he didn't win.

Cheers,

DE last Monday/Tuesday at Watkins Glen, must be the driver, ha ha. Only 2-3 cars past me. My favorite kill was the 996 twin turbo, he had to give me the point by cause I kept catching him in the turns, but in the straights he was gone. Got to about 125 in 4th on the back straight. About 105-110 on the front straight. Car held together real well. My buddy in his 996 carrera hung with me for awhile and could pull on the straights, but i had him in the turns. Once he gave me the point by I never saw him again. After each run, people kept coming to me and saying, wow, that thing sounds awesome. One guy said he almost lost it behind me because he was paying more attention to the sound of my car than his line, he was intoxicated by the Test pipes and RMB. Everyone I talked to said how much they loved the 928 and it was the best car they had ever ridden in, but heard the maintenance was horrible. Some people just don't get it. Fish on.

As soon as we were done on Tuesday, a couple IRL cars showed up to Test/tune. Helio and the Marlboro car and the Target car (Manning) and another driver. My friends 996 GT3 was getting around at 2:19 or so. The warm-up lap for the Target car was 1:42 and got down to 1:38. I think the track record is 1:35. Those cars are sick.

BTW, the wife walked into the t-shirt/sticker trailer and bought herself a Porsche Support Vehicle sticker for her Jeep. I love me wife. ha ha.
