Kaz, I know the freeway, nice and big/wide from Pomona all the way to the 15. Hard to stay off the throttle on that road. I sliced that puppy up in the GTS yesterday heading back to Ventura County Sounds like the M car driver had a little black book full of excuses in the console box....sure it was a chick???? I don't think I would be giving a thumbs down to a car I could barely keep up with and then squak about how I lost my license and need to take it easy.

Interestingly enough, as we hit the old part of the 210 heading back to the valley, I noticed a light blue 360 convertible (?) tap dancing through traffic in my rearview as we sped down the road in the diamond lane. He was jumping the double yellow several times and it got me to thinking it was important for him to show me who rules the road. He zipped up next to me and then slowly walked by at around 90...passed a few more cars and slipped back across the double yellow in to the diamond. I bit, but I waited for the broken white before I bailed out into the commoners lanes. I made sure he saw me slip past him at a good clip, but I am sure a white GTS doing close to triple digits isn't too stealthy. We did the switcharooni several times all the way into Pasadena. I just wished this all would have taken place on the stretch you were talking about. I would have liked to have seen how I faired against a car of that caliber.

Keith I have no doubt you would've walked this C32 as well. The car seemed to have good midrange acceleration and average high end acceleration. If I'd have been without a passenger I probably would've run her again.

There were a lot of Ferrari's out at Fontana for the Challenge race and some historics with disc AND drum brakes. Incidentally on the way home today two 355 Spyders did not take it so easy and were pulled by CHP's finest. Looks like they might've just gotten a talking to and not a ticket though.

Any of you 928 guys ever race 911s? I've always loved the 928s. How fast is a stock 928, and the supercharged ones? Some of those power numbers are pretty high....500+...wow! I'm just curious , cause I love both cars. Not trying to start anything.I drive a relatively stock 911, it has good power and is a blast to drive, but no serious TT power numbers.

Darin, I'll tell you what drive on up to WA in May and you can take mine for a run and see what you think. I have only been in two 911's and both rides were eye openers. Once on the street once on the track. They feel more raw and aggressive, but I love the comfort of the 928, and all that torque.

Darin, I've tangled with a few 993's and 6's in my 88S4 and only one 911 in my 89S4. Both my cars are relatively stock but the butt dyno thinks the 89 is a much stronger car than my 88 was. About a week ago getting onto the freeway behind a beautiful white 87-89 911 Carrera with whale tail, the driver saw me and floored it. I went by him very easily.

When I sold my 88 in 2002 I took it on one last run to Vegas figuring to break whatever wanted to break before turning it over to the new owner. Somewhere around San Bernadino I linked up with a 996, at first we just ran together but once traffic thinned out we got to playing and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could stay with him if I started out at the right speed in the right gear. Basically the higher the speed we started from the more advantage I seemed to have. When we had nothing in front of us and there was nothing to do but keep the car pointed straight and our feet to the floor I was consistantly able to pull him. Not blow by, not walk, just steadily creep by. At one point we got slowed pretty good by traffic and to take off from sub 55mph speeds in a 4 spd auto just had me at a huge disadvantage. He was gone. That 88 had 140,000 miles on it at that time and according to the new owner is still going strong.

So,we ran this way ALL the way to Vegas. At one point, I was able to spot a CHP cruiser coming up hard behind us. Luckily we had been held up by traffic. He then tried to hide himself in a mess of motor homes we'd just gone by. The 996 was running point and I was able to hand signal him not to take off as traffic was on the verge of clearing for us. I knew when that happened the 996 was going to nail it and I was most definately not going to be taking off with him. He saw my signal and stayed where he was. Then the cruiser comes up hard and aggressive and parks himself in my blindspot. He stayed there for about half a mile then hammers it and parks himself in the blindspot of the 996. At that point I thought, somone dialed a cell and called us in. We're cooked. We stayed this way for a mile, the CHP then hammers his brakes and makes for the median and that was that. We breathed a sigh of relief and kept speeds to a sane 95mph run into Vegas.

I tangled with a good friend of mines 89 911 targa one night.
We were headed home from dinner. I told myself I wasn't going to race and he had dropped back about 8 car lengths. Everthing was cool at 75ish, I changed the radio station, noticed my exit is about a mile up,,, then there he was, in my side mirror, winding out some gear and giving me that parade queen wave as he passed. "darn" he sniped me.
That's it, I'd never live it down if I just take that and go home. Well I dropped a gear to 4th, should have gone to 3rd, but 4th worked. It felt like for ever, 3rd would have been faster. It was medium walk passing. I chatch him in the middle of 4th, and return the wave. By my exit I'm a few lenghts ahead of him. I hit my blinker, wave again and hit the brakes,,, race over.
The next night he said he didn't realize my car was that fast. He said he had never been caught passing someone off gaurd like that before. I told him " I had the AC off" yes that's what it was, the AC.
I also had to tell him, if you kept it tuned up you might have had a better chance.

When I got my 86' shark it was looking pretty sad, paint needing buffing, spoilers getting whited out from the FLA sun, old dish wheels. I had some fun on I-95 coming through maryland to get home with my shark from the initial pruchase. Nervous about the timing belt from the PO's maintenance (or lack of), I was challengd to race by an 01' mustang cobra. Coming along side me, reving and temporary spurts of acceleration was my cue. I threw caution aside and said what the heck. I don't know how fast those cobras are, but we started from 65 and he was losing ground all the way up to 145, when at that point he gave up and was 3-4 cars behind me. This shark rolled up to 145 very quick and didn't feel like it was struggling to get there. I knew then I had made the right purchase!

A Neon SRT-4 decided to try and bite my shark one morning on the way to school. on a rolling start at 50 mph we both dropped it and my auto kicked to 2nd and took a fender lead up to 75 mph. That little car still kept up! By 95 he was at my quarter and falling back slowly. I backed off at 115-120 when he was a car length and a half away and just let him blast by me..... quick little cars, but there's always this bigger fish

A couple of years ago, ok 4, I had my clutch replaced. Driving home down I78 here in NJ, I was watching some guy in one of those little Dodge Neon's, white with a blue "racing" strip down the middle of the car. This guy was weaving in and out of traffic for all it was worth just trying to get ahead but really getting no where. I was quite amused watching this and had absolutly no intention of getting anywhere near him. Anyway, we end up getting off the same exit, him a few cars in front. We all went through a series of traffic lights and lo and behold, the two of us end up side by side at the last light. Ahread is about 1/4 mile before the two lanes merge into one. Anyway the light turns green and the little Neon chirps his tires and "speeds" away from the light. All within the next 500ms, the scene from "Risky Biz" went through my mind and I thought "Hit it!". Dumped the clutch and floored her.... Very needless to saw I flew passed the Neon like he was standing still in a very short space of time, a grin on my face.

I don't think of this as a kill, but more of a mercy killing.

I have been enjoying all of these posts! Definite smile factor! I thought I would dig around on the SOCAL board and try to find another decent story. Here is another one from a few years back..... (a tad edited)

Some of you may know, that I had to remove the last remaining muffler on my car due to it being a POS and rusting. So for the moment, the only thing between the engine and tail pipe is a cat...he he. Suffice it to say, it is a wee bit more noticable .(...kinda like telling a man standing in front of a 50' tidal wave, "You might experience some moisture!")

So last night we went to see the Sam and Dave (Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth, X Van Halen front men) tour.

I knew we would be parking in the parking garage at Universal Studio's, so I just HAD to have the car with me (*..snicker). Windows down, sunroof back and several quick pumps on the throttle in the echoing caverness structure. Need I mention car alarms??? So we parked and went to the show.

Got out of concert, ears ringing in major fashion from being so close to the stage, jump in car, fire it up ...rrrrRRIIIPPP ROOOAAAARRR!!!!!!!! Look around, not many cars left in structure, pulled down to 1st, ease the throttle ...a little more (he he)...a little More ...a little MORE, enough to where I can here it now with my ears having bells in them. Such a delicious sound! Pull off the throttle and the exaust is popping like a over cooked burrito in the microwave....SNAP! BLAP! WAP! Did I mention car alarms???

We wheel the beast out to the 101 for a high revving recital. Again, ears are ringing and not real sure how loud the exhaust is. We make a few weaves and bobs up through the 170. Well, I guess I caught the attention of a 911SC and a 5.0 Mustang cuz I could see these 2 sets of lights darting all over the freeway between traffic to catch up to us. Keeping in lane at around 70mph, the SC does a fly-by on my left while the 'stang gets up on the right side and porks his ponies, letting me know he has a V8 buried in there somewhere. Unfare advantage, we are 2, they are one each, we have carpool lane option...saaaaLING!!!!!! C YA!.. as my car sounds like its puking its guts out at full throttle.

So after a short stint, I pull up on the reigns and settle in at 75 or so. Lost sight of both cars since they got caught in the less fortuante lanes until Mr stang thang rumbles up again only to have to exit off into Sun Valley (ooo darn![*snapping my finger]). Here we come I5, ...I think I smell another Porsche, look up in rearview and its Mr. SC. I pace him for a bit until we get up to the 118 west ramp with one of those up and over long sweepers...the kind you can inject a little speed into.

Now I don't know if Mr. SC backed off cause he couldn't make it up the ramp as fast or my exhaust was flexing his ear drums, but he disappeared for a minute or so. As we slid onto the 118 I looked for our nemesis and there he be, that little rascal, sneeking up on the outside...STOMP...buWAAAAHHHHH. I held it there this time til we reached 120 something and Mr. SC was there, but I could tell I was increasing the distance.

Once I passed a couple of vehicles in the immediate right lane, I swung in and backed off hard, hoping Mr SC would slip past and then I could be the hunter for a bit. No dice, as soon as he saw me manuever, I think he thought I saw a CHP and he leaped on his brakes.(DANG!) I stick to my slower speed and he swings around the back, over to the outside again. I let him get up even with me and saw him looking over for some kind of acknowledgement. I acknowledged him by pumping the throttle 3 times and hightailing out like a junkyard dog with a sure thing on an intruder apprehention.
Never saw him again.

Too much fun!

Careful Kieth, ringing in the ears signals permanent hearing loss. No lie.
