RUF 928 ? Has there ever been one?
Got into a discussion with a fellow owner. He claims that RUF over in "Yer'Up" has done a top to bottom make over of a 928. If so, anybody heard of it or seen it ? Pictures perhaps. If they have I sure would like to know the stats on it. their 911 makeovers are the best in the business.

RUF 928
That is a good question. I would imagine that we would have heard about it by now if one was ever done. So probably not. But that does bring up another good question.
So, If RUF did do a 928...
What would a RUF 928 be like?

Don't think I've heard/read about a Ruf version. I TechArt over there did one up though-- there used to be an inactive web page on it that was accessible via some roundabout route. I kept coming upon it while searching for info on Remus exhaust fitments for our cars (real expensive and discontinued). It was mostly a cosmetic makeover from what I recall.

Unlikely they will do any development work with cars other than the 911/Boxster series. RUF is not a tuner, they are a manufacturer, and doing thingsn right on multiple model lines would probably stretch their resources too thin.

So after 18 years from the question being asked, I could 100% confirm that Yes Ruf did build just one 928. It recently was shipped by RUF to Zweck in Miami, and then headed to RUF NA HQ at The Concourse Club. Beautiful car in Black, with brownish leather & alcantara steering wheel, automatic on Ruf wheels & yellow ceramic brakes.

Wow. Would love to see it. I met the Ruf NA guys at the 2023 miami design district concours and saw them again yesterday at Prestige Imports. Let me see if I can over there this week and take a look.

From all that I have read, there was never a 928 done.
Lots of 928's had RUF wheels, steering wheels etc and the inly V8 they made was for a green 911 variant (the intake was reversed and could not fit the 928 engine.
If you look at their 80-Years Tribute video the only mention of the 928 (at 6:50 mins) was that they were going in the direction of the 911.
