Gretch:
The deal was good, knocking off about $250 for the package from the online price. If I had taken two pro-jacks it would have been another $100 off (only $500 more for the second jack), but one should work well. I like the stability of the pro-jack versus a jack tray using bottle jacks or whatever.
Shipping weight is 1938 for the lift and jack; 1588 for the lift alone. Length is 14 ft. I will rent a suitable u-haul trailer and pick it up at the freight depot about 15 miles a way.
The closest competing deal was the Complete Lift mentioned in previous posts at $1850 including jack trays as well as casters and drip trays. They don't offer a similar jack, although you can use this jack with just about any similar 4 poster. Simpler to order from one place and probably save on shipping. I don't need the jack trays anyway.
I really like the construction of the Autolifter and Backyard Buddy, but the consensus is the lift type offered by Direct Lift, Eagle and Complete works well.
With more lateral room, a 2-poster would have been it.
This has been a good thread for comparing lift types and their requirements. Thank you Rennlist!

Bill-
I'll be interested in how you get this thing home and off loaded. Can you please try to document with pictures? I'm really getting close to pulling the trigger, but am not sure how to get the sucker home/off the truck as I don't have a cherry picker/fork lift/tractor/etc.. Thanks.

In the 4 poster (Bill's) case the total thing weighs under 2000 pounds and has at least 6 major components. It is doubtful if any one item weighs more than 375 pounds. So you rent a trailer, pick the lift up at the freight terminal, where they will load it for you and when you get it home, you take it off the trailer in pieces.
In my case the factory delivered the lift to my farm. Being a two poster that weighed about 2100 pounds, I needed a LARGE tractor to offload it from the truck, as it was end-on to the loader. Each upright weighed abbout 900 pounds.....and the whole "kit" was bolted together for shipping, so taking it out of the truck piece by piece was not an option. I used my "big" tractor...

Glad to hear it. Obviously we've never met, so I have this distinct image of you in my head, and that picture just didn't fit what's in my head. LOL!

Andrew:
I will document this. The trucking company loads it on your trailer or truck using a forklift at the terminal. They will not offload it at your house or business, and I don't have neighbor like Gretch's. But I do have an engine hoist that should allow me to offload the 300-400lb. pieces from the trailer even by myself.

I just got back from picking up my Autolifter M-6 and will be putting it together this weekend. I'll take pics of the construction process as well and we can compare notes. I was very impressed with how my dealings with Autolifter have gone.
Since I am relatively close by to Autolifter (approx 200 miles), I went ahead and picked it up at the factory, so I am into it for $2200.00. No jack yet, but I am leaning seriously towards getting a midrise lift to complement the 4 poster.

The Autolifter is a very nicely built lift and was at the top of my list - far sturdier than the type of lift I got. I was guided to my choice by others who have not found a problem with this type, but I was very attracted to the Autolifter! There was only one thing I wondered about with the Autolifter and that is the 24" approach ramps. Let us know if those are long enough. Others have 36-37" ramps.

Yeah, I wondered about that myself, but I figure if its a problem, ramps are easy enough to obtain or fab up. I will keep you posted (um, sorry for the bad pun... lol).

Got it up and running! That was a whole lot easier than I figured it would be. The instructions weren't all that, it was a very straightforward install and we had no problems at all getting it assembled in about three hours (with a break for lunch and a run to WalMart to pick up the 12 qts of Dextron III).
It works flawlessly and there are no issues with the ramps, the 928 went on the car with no hassles whatsoever. A major bonus is how much space you find between the ramps (it will be a piece of cake for me to drop the engine in my 944 in a week or so). If you have the ceiling clearance, this is a major score.
I definitely think the M6 is worth the extra $2-300 over some of the others, and its a bargain over the Backyard Buddy, but my perspective is probably suspect since I own one.

Bill, good job we sell the same in North East outside of Philadelphia and our customers have been very happy with the setup. When installing remove a piece on at a time…we place the runways on car skates and roll them place. You will need a large 36MM socket to tighten the nut on the piston. Good luck.
If any anyone is looking this type of lift in the North East we have then in stock to be picked up or delivered. This save on that $500 shipping cost
