A "REAL" 928 lift
Since I got my VW, and the wife already hates that it takes up so much room in the garage, I've been looking at the possibility of putting in a lift. In my quest, I came across this one... look at the second picture. That's 928 on top! I think I need one.

I have a backyard buddy "overheight" 7000 lb 4 post lift and so far I love it! They are not much on customer service but make a really nice product. www.backyardbuddy.com

I just bought an Autolifter M6 and should be picking it up this week. I will post pictures when I have it in. I like the design of it and the Backyard Buddy a whole lot better than the lifts that have an inside runner, such as the link showed.

I spent about 18 months researching this topic. I found that the one From Eagle Lift it the best one for the money. I think it it extremely safe and very user friendly. I constantly switch between all of my cars and love the ease of use and reliability.

Ohhhh, am I hot on this topic. Damn the 8' finished ceiling in my garage. If the 928 were an inch or two lower I'd get both in the garage on one of these things. My wife wonders why I've been staring so intently at that ceiling lately.

I notice that home delivery may be an issue. How did you guys handle that? I don't happen to have a forklift.
I was planning on picking it up in a U-Haul at the shipping terminal. The shipment is 15 feet long, so this would take the biggest truck. At least one dealer said they would forklift it onto a truck at the depot. Then I figure my neighbor and I could dismantle the load and haul it piece by piece into the garage.

Hey Joe,
How high is your ceiling in your garage? Does the car even come close to hitting the garage door when its open? I'm about to move into my new house. I think it has 9' ceilings. I really like your lift and sure hope one would fit in my garage. I would like to have 2 928's some day. I'm sure my wife wouldn't notice one 928 on a huge red lift stacked on top of another one.

Pizza: Joe's look like 10 feet, but 9 feet should work. All of the 4-post lifts I have seen are less than 8 feet high, so no problem with that. A 928 is just slightly over 4 feet (add for roof antenna, if you have one) and 2 should fit fine under a 9 foot ceiling, allowing 4 inches for the deck. The garage door roll-up may be an issue, depending on which direction you face the car, how deep the garage is and the type and mounting of the door track. Even in my 8 foot garage, the door is not the problem, though. I need to determine if I can punch a hole and raise the ceiling about 8 inches without getting into any issues with beams.

My ceiling in 12.5' high. There is always about 8-10 inches above the top car at the highest setting. The picture of the 928 on top or the NSX is at the heighest setting. I could lower the lift about 6" to more clearance on top but I hit my head too much when I get out of the car. Eagle does make the lift in Black,Red, and Blue and they include a can of matching color to touch it up. It comes with casters to move the lift around if needed and a full set of drip trays. (those came in handy for my 87 928). You do need to hire a Uhaul sized truck to get it from any Business location. They are not allowed to ship to residences. I had it shipped to my Printing plant and used one of our box trucks to transport it home. You do need 2 people to get it out of the truck. Not as many parts as you would think and it assembles in less than 3 hours.

Oh, about the garage door. I did have the tracks installed so that the door would go almost straight up to the top of the ceiling. ( $350.00 for track and new spring) I did not have to if I had the lift in the front of the garage instead of the very back. I own a Harley that fits perfect in front of the lift and did not want to have to move it every time a needed to get a car out if it was in the back near the door blocking a car.

12.5 feet! I can only dream. I should make it clear to Pizza that at 9 feet, two 928s should fit for storage, but it's obviously tight. You'd have to be careful not to put the top car through the ceiling or bang your head on the deck when you exit the lower car.

Gretch: Thanks for the warning. I'll need to recruit all the neighbors. I'm going with a 4-poster, so that divides the weight up more. There probably isn't a tractor within 20 miles of here!
