George:

I might be able to squeeze a few hours of wrenching in this weekend. Let me know your schedule.

Rich,

The plan is to use the existing roll bar in the cage. It'll need to be
modified since I'm going for a welded in cage. As for seats, I don't
know yet, I'm working with Marc on that. They need to be FIA
certified, so I won't be able to get the reclining seats I'd like.... I'll
have to make sure I can fit in the car with the helmet on.

Bill,

I'm pretty flexible this weekend. I was going to try and get in few
hours on Saturday, probably 1-5, then if I didn't finish go back on
Sunday. I've got to install the bracket on the belly pan, install the
clamps on the new Cats, remove the rear seats and door panels.
I'll have to remove the roll bar to get to the reat seats. I'll probably
also remove the passenger seat (until I get the new seats). This
is a big step. It'll be hard to get the car back to stock after this...

I have a committment for Saturday in Alameda and my transmission/TT is coming out tomorrow, along with the A arms and rack. So I guess I will have to sit this one out. I hope I will get the car back for the drive the following weekend to Big Sur and Carmel. Happy wrenching.

Looks like I'm in for the 12th. Beth, please PM or post directions. I'm assuming an early start and a long day.

Nicole, can you bring that wire brush along? I don't think I'll be in the east bay before the 12th.

Bill, at this rate you're going to have to change your last name to "Belt"

Sounds like a great time! Oh, and did someone say "cookies"?

Ron and Joe - bummer. George - hope to see you. And cool Dave - yes, there will be cookies. What are your favorites. Hey any other food or drink requests? Don't be shy - lord knows I'm not!

I will be either posting or PM'ing directions soon.

And dang it, I forgot my list of parts that I have. I'll try to remember again tomorrow.

So as it stands, it looks like we have Bill, Nicole, Geoff, Dave, and of course me and Rich.

Maybe's are Steve, Richard (Monterey one) and George.

Looking good!

Now if anyone gets bored with the belt we have other issues with the '85 that maybe you guys want to play with:
Lighting issues - right side of car running lights are out.
Fuse panel glitches (Dave - this one is calling you)
Blower motor - newly replaced but only works on "high" - really weird.
Rear hatch release
Interior repair (aren't you an expert at this Nicole?)
Slight miss at idle

Only if you are interested. And of course I'm sure some of you will be bringing problems with you also.

Rich and I have a ton of tools. Any special one's we might not have or want me to check on?

Man, I can't wait!!!!!

Beth do you have Yamabond for the tensioner bolt? Indispensible stuff. Also, do you have a flywheel lock?

Beth: Regarding the behavior of the blower motor - search for "magic blower syndrome" - I think that's what it was called before. Apparently it's quite common...

What a party that will be!!!

Yeah the resistor pack is probably the culprit on the blower.

Huh?

No flywheel lock.

"Magic Blower Syndrome"? Ok, that's a new one. Thank's for the tip.

Yamabond is a fexible sealant. It seals the bolt so the oil stays in the tensioner. You can get it at a Yamaha dealer. Does anyone have a flywheel lock that we can borrow for the party? If not they can be had for less than $20 bucks at Devek.

Bill has a flywheel lock that he usually brings to these things.

Beth... check with Jim Bailey; he knows right where
the blower resister pack goes. No surprise, eh?
He helped me with that very thing at Sharktoberfest.
(Our blower worked on only the 2 highest settings)

G'luck.

I have all the essentials for the TB/WP job (flywheel lock, gasket goop included). Might need a jug of coolant, rolls of paper towels, hand cleaner, baggies for parts, marking pens, 2-3 cans of brake cleaner aeresol.

Also, it would be real good if people interested in turning a wrench, and we need several to do so, please read John Pirtle's TB/WP guide, if you haven't already.

Also, John has a section on the blower fan for Beth's other car.
