After spending a half hour looking for a place to buy Mobil 1 Delvac 5W40 I found this site. One gallon for $88.00.

How about FOUR gallons for $88. I found this in the first hit with Google. So, a bit more searching may turn up a cheaper source. There are comments that Mobil Truck and SUV 5W40 is Delvac 1, just rebadged and cheaper and carried by some WalMarts. I haven't researched that yet.

Mobil was having a promo, I bought a bit of it at Kragen for $3.99/Qt no shipping etc.. Then my redline cam in, and that was $9/QT as my old supplier went out of business.....(maybe for selling it to me for $7.50/QT)... ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I did notice that I have lower oil pressure at idle when the car is hot... It sometimes goes down to 2 bar with the 5w-40 Mobil 1 Delvac VS 3 bar with the 15w-50 Redline... The cam seals are 1 year old.... so I'm thinking that the pressure is less, but flow is more..... Anyway, just my .02

Maybe I misled too... The Mobil 1 5w-40 I used was the yellow topper, for diesel trucks etc... It has the same or better spec than the regular M1 for cars, and also has the Porsche cert on the label... I figured as long as it has th ratings, it could say it's for grandma's tricycle, and it would not matter..
Hell, I remember not too long ago, an ace mechanic reminded me that they used Whale Sperm in the differentials.... Or was it Sperm Whale oils.....?

I bought some of that "Truck" 5w40 for my 944 that I'm driving this winter. It's got the diesel spec. (Where's Doug Hillary when you need him?) Got it at Wal-mart for like $4 on my only visit there ever. Seen it elsewhere for nearing $6.
The car's been running fine with good pressure hot and easy starts cold.

hey, all i can tell you is the two times ive changed the oil to mobil 1 in my old 79 racer, the oil pressure light would come on on very hot race days, and pressure nearing only 4 bar at high rpm and near 1 on slow speed corners.
with amzoil, its stays at 5 bar ALWAYS!
call it luck, or whatever, but you will aways find Amzoil in my oil pan when racing.
Ask don and others how many engines they have lost to possible oil related failures using mobil 1 for racing. for street, it probably doesnt matter!

Hey MK,
I swear by the Redline stuff, and will not run at the track if not so equipped...
This time, I went to change the oil, and my supplier was out of business... My new case came in after I changed the oil... Being that the car is only seeing street duty for the next few weeks, I don't think it will matter much...
Track stuff will start when I get all the fluids done in a week or so when the new TT & Trans go into the lil' beast...
I hear ya on the pressure thing, as I mentioned above... I also think that the higher pressure is neccessary at high rpm's...

My two questions:
Other than viscosity, what factors contribute to oil pressure? Is there anyplace to look first? Condition of the pump and bearing surfaces throughout the engine and ...
How accurate is the warning light, what's the trigger pressure and can that pressure vary for some reason? Spring tension?

Try searching the Rennlist for posts by Doug Hillary. His knowledge of motor oils is encyclopedic and you'll probably find most of your answers in his posts.
