Keith
Sounds like your "buddy" has a bit of "small mans syndrome"
I would just listen to his constant chatter & just respond....thats nice, but its not a Porsche.....man he would flip out..."my car does this, this and that better than any porsche!" so then tell him..."thats good for a chevy, but its still not a porsche" Man he would go insane & demand a race.... tell him to come talk to you when his vette is 12-20 years old then we'll race...because you will still have 2 928's that perform exactly (or better) the same as they do today....do you think that hot rodded C5 will still be in one piece in 10 years....I don't!

I know just as many Porsche owners that are just like your Vette friend.

I guess my response would be: "I'd be happy to race my '93 stock Porsche against a '93 stock Corvette."

Exactly what I told him Iceman. My car compared to his is equivilant to 10 year old computer technology. I even said he was coming across with the "little fella" syndrome. After 3 email exchanges, I started this thread.
BTW, I clicked on "Reply to all" from my very first response to his initial post
I think this may have contributed to his need for justification.

Race him. After he spanks you, offer to let him drive your car, and see if he'll let you drive his just for the experience of it. It isn't any big deal really. The 928 is of course cooler looking either way......

A good friend of mine when I was young and foolish used to love telling the story of the nice shiny new Vette that he had ripped a new one in his Jetta GLi. This was ~1980.
At the light, my buddy accelerated as best he could, believing as we all did, that our POS cars were the coolest thing since swiss cheese. He was amazed and bewildered to find the Vette not keeping up with him, so as he looked back he saw that the poor fellow had made a very nice 180 way back there since his foot had hit the gas a bit too hard.
In my S4 I dropped a '67 Tri-Power Goat like it was standing still. Twice in a row. Was it his stock narrow tyres? Slow reaction? Weight?
Upon returning he very nearly rear-ended me because I was braking hard to slow from the drag and enter our office parking lot and he had to shoot by .....

What doesn't help is that every time a new vette or 911 comes out, all the car magazines on this side of the atlantic are running "911 v. Vette Showdown!" Hell, with modern copy-editing software, they probably just do a find and replace on the old article and drop in the new specs.

Motor Trend mentions this in their recent 911 v Corvette comparison! It amkes sense, I suppose. The 911 is the typical European sports car, while the Corvette is the iconic US sports car.

Emanuel plus you write a "nice "article favorable to the Corvette and next thing you know you get some nice pages of advertising purchased by Chevy for your magazine
