This is a GREAT tool for setting the timing of the cams. Use it on both my '89 and my '94. GREAT WORK Ken.

The amount of advance the S4 motor will take is minimal without fuelling changes - if you want more power, you're better off getting an X-pipe and some better camshafts, and having the car shark-tuned (do a search for Sharktuner if you haven't heard of it).

Having said which, this tool is great for checking and adjusting timing (e.g. fitting new cams, changing cam gears etc.) as its much faster than the factory dial-indicator method of measuring the lobes.

The 5.0L engine is good for a lot of power - do a search for "screamer motor" for one that had upgraded cams and exhaust, and was blue-printed/balanced (using stock rods/pistons/crank etc).
