I always wanted to be an architect. Ended up as an importer/exporter... of potato chips.
Not really, just carrying along the Seinfeld ref. and such.
Posted here before about my day job, but my most recent enterprise is 928 Classics http://www.928Classics.com
Shameless plug, I know... but at least it's 928 related!

Wow! have only been on this forum two years and have never seen this thread. Civil/Structural engineer specializing in bridges and marine structures. Have been a car enthusiast my entire life. Grew up on major American iron but became fascinated with the introduction of the 928 in 1978/1979. Finally achieved my dream with a purchase of a 928 in 2010. Glad to be a participant in such a great forum.
Thanks, Dave

I might as well add to the list.... I've been working as an EE (board designer) at several startup companies for the last seven years since graduating from MIT. I'm currently taking the summer off to work on my '87, and then I'm heading to Duke for the next couple of years to get an MBA.

Well, I spent that summer working on my first 928 (now gone). Then finished the MBA and spent six years in corporate strategy and marketing for a major semiconductor company. Now I run the marketing group for a power semiconductor/module manufacturer.

Hey, I'm a structural engineer as well. Started out on motorways
and bridges, moved on to high rise buildings then to
a big architectural practice doing smaller stuff.
About 12 years ago I left work to look after my wife who
is badly disabled and started up part time from home.
I normally would never had the nerve to do this but my hand was forced.
Busy from day one providing an engineering service to small
architects doing mainly home extensions and conversions.
Quite often now the clients are willing to bypass the architect
and let me do all the design work (apologies to any architects out there).
It brings in enough to get by on but the biggest buzz is making clients happy.
