This thread is quite old, and many of us have moved to other jobs or professions since it started. I now work as Marketing Programs Manager at a small software company.

Not sure when I posted this thread last, but likely I've been laid-off a few times since then.

My main specialty is Web & Software Development - Been a software engineer for almost 20 years. I started as a mainframe, Assembler programmer in the 80's. I currently work for a local company developing websites and custom software for a range of clientele.

Other (current) professions: Professional photographer (www.kellyshipp.com) and I'm also trying to get the family's BBQ Sauce business off the ground (www.shippsbbq.com). Anyone like BBQ sauce?

Just read through most of the posts on here and all I can say is WOW! What an impressive list of talented and interesting people.

So now my turn:

Graduated BSEE (yes another one!)

Spent 10 years as the lead I&C engineer at a Nuclear Power Station doing mostly mechanical engineering (go figure)

Then worked for Westinghouse for 2 years designing test centers for Nuclear Power Stations. (required by the NCR after the Three Mile Island event)

Received my Masters in Computer Science and taught Unix and C programming graduate level classes. Did that for 8 years while working.

Then worked for process control company writing application software. This company stocked the company fridge with beer!

Got really tired of working for idiots (they stopped doing the beer thing. ), so I quit and started my own IT/Software company. Been working for another idiot (me) for the past 25 years!

Now I'm writing apps for the iPhone. That's fun!

Maybe someday I'll retire and spend all my time working on 928s!

I'm a law school professor. Specialties are federal taxation and closely-held corporation intrigue. I also teach a Con Law seminar on the Second Amendment.

As a sideline, I have lobbied for my state's responsible gun owners for 25 years and I was on the NRA Board of Directors for 9 years.

One of my articles was cited by the US Supreme Court in the D.C. v. Heller case (for which I co-authored an amicus brief). I'm presently clearing the decks in order to co-author another brief in McDonald v. City of Chicago (due o/a Nov. 23 - ack!).

F4GIB:
Thank you for what you've done for all of us. Don't ever think no one cares. You care and I care and that makes two of us, and the NRA cares too.

Gotta love Assembler, it never plays trick on you, only does what you tell it Did you do any program dump and trace reading? Most of my Assembler expertise (IBM mainframe) came from reading object code in dumps.

When the mainframe only had 1/4 mb ram, every bit counted!

Great stuff, looking through a 10,000 page printout for that bit or two that went awry

Surprised I didn't post to this way back when, but couldn't find it

Owner/Operator of a micro ISP, Excell.Net, developing & hosting websites as well as their related email. Definitely challenging for a techie at heart, 13 years of this, with my wife as a partner for @10 years (role of wife for 31 years). Been in IT for my whole career, just love figuring out why things don't work as they should.

It is all about quality if life to me, I work to live, not live to work, although I work quite a bit.

Enjoy today, for tomorrow is not certain!
