Default Intake Tube Gaskets Re-useable?

Can the 16V intake tube gaskets be re-used? Mine just look like hard black plastic. Should I use any type of sealant upon re-assembly? I am discovering the wonders of CIS. It helps to remember where things go if you know what they do!

I wouldn't. I'm guessing that you're impatient to put it back together, not worried about the couple of bucks the gaskets cost. You're that far in, unless you have plans to take it apart again real soon(like next week) then it's a "tar and feather" offense to re-use fossilized gaskets...

No sealant. Yes, you probably could make them with Form-a-Gasket or some such, but do you really want to? If you're in a time pinch, buy some gasket cork or whatnot and cut them yourself. But you'll hate yourself if you have to scrape blue-gasket-goop off your head at a later date. Honest.

Remember, that any injection metric like CIS,L/LH,MAP is dependant on a lack of "unmetered" air to be accurate and ultimately functional. Your plenum and runners need to be sealed effectively to work effectively.

(Note to techies: Yeah, I know alpha-N is not airflow dependant. So shoot me.)

Order the gaskets. They're cheap. And you'll not have to worry about them being the source of a vacuum leak hampering your drivability requiring you to redo the job anyway.

Good luck,

Greg

BUY some gasket paper and make them...very little magic in paper gaskets IMHO. Anything oil/gas resistant in about 1/32" uncompressed should do fine.
jp 83 Euro S AT 48k, CIS doing a fine job.

I've even used manila folders in a pinch. One way or another, your best bet is to replace them, ideally with a die-cut gasket that fits.

buy the gaskets. (i even may have a set that i dont need as I did not replace them on my original US euro intake conversion)

I got lucky with my first install. Scot and I had a misrible time using the old gaskets, that looked fine. leaks all over the place and the car didnt even run! It is some work to scrape them off the intake runners, or really a pain when its off the heads. (make sure you seal up the holes and not let pieces enter the intake port!!)

Let me know if you want a set of the gaskets

Or have some 3/8" phenolic (heat rejecting) gaskets made instead.

I just had all my intake out and replaced the gaskets. As Mark said, it can be a b#$ch if the gaskets stay on the runners, but I got lucky and they came off with the intake spiders. Relatvely easy to clean when this happens
