Jeff...if you're into the clean look like I am... you should consider filling in the side markers. When I eventually get my '85 re-painted, I'm going to shave the rub strips and fill in the holes for the markers.

N!

How about the tabs on the quarterpanles? Are they used or cut off?

You mention considering a body kit, but have you considered spending some time just flaring or at least rolling the fenders for some additional clearance? With those less than perfect offset wheels you may be able to go up a couple of tire sizes with some added clearance. Kibort and others have hammer flared there fenders with good results without anything added except some soothing with body filler.

Here's Kibort's track car posterior sporting 335s!

Again, thanks for sharing and keep us updated on the progress... great stuff!

Thanks WildBill. That is one stout lookin car. It looks like they just hammered the lip flat? Looks good like that though.

You would have to shave the tabs if you change from an "S" rear spoiler to an S4 version.

BTW, I went through this same exercise about 2 years ago.... Interior out, glass out, down to metal, etc.

A ton of work but well worth the effort.

Enjoy the time and have fun with it.

yes exactly, the tabs on the quarter panels are not necessary. i removed mine along with the quarter panel and just used some GTS replacements - factory flares!

There's an aftermarket wing on eBay:

It's only ~$100.

I didnt like the admission of future cracking on those hahahaha at least theyre no B.S. I would consider new skins on the quarters. I'll bet theyre an arm and a leg. I'd like to do a little more flare to the front as well. That is where its close.

jeff,

they cost a small fortune! i think if i was doing it again id be tempted by glass-fibre replacement panels, although there is the issue of cracks appearing later - and trying to touch up the paint when they do. i thought the devek panels were steel?

Alright, I just got back from a long weekend with the guys working on the Shark. My Buddy Willie Said that he wanted to take all of the panels off of the car to spray all the inside edges with the paint (trim it out). He was on a time frame and tht suddenly fell through so he said "lets do it right and we pulled stuff off all weekend...between food and beers haha. He said he would like to have everything that can come off on a stand to get each panel and piece right one at a time then put it all together. I also go to get with the paint guy....who went out of his way to come out to check it out , get a paint code and a sample. He said that it would be real cool to do a three stage paint close to the original color, but in a candy color. with a medium size metal flake instead of the fine flake that is on there now. It will take 2 silver metal flake coats (very very bright hahaha) then it gets a colored transperent paint (looks like red wine) in light coats over and over making it deeper in color each coat..probably about 5 coats. Then a couple of clear coats , wetsand, and a polish. Its going to be radical. But for now there is more destruction pics haha. I got some pics of the rear spoiler where all the mounts rotted off and the unseen damage underneath the thing. Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

Here is a couple of finished pieces. The bumper washer holes are gone. That bumper primer is some real indestructable stuff. The painter showed me a basketball primed and painted that was deflated afterward anf you cant crack the paint...scratch it yes but not crack it.

I found this in the back of the glove box...thought someone may get a kick out of it like i did.

Heck yeh, the dash./pod are both cracked and the front seats and doorpanels both need to be redone. I'm just collecting parts and waiting for the paint to get done before I start the inside. I want to do the black seats (leather) With a charcoal grey center front and rear and match the carpet to it. Also the center insert in the door panels the same. I think the black and grey with some stainless and carbon fiber trim out will look good but not ghetto. I just want it to look a little radical but still have a little class.

And Yeh BC DAVIS That primer was very cool, but the fact that it had the metallic finish coat and clear and still didnt crack was a real eye opener. I had no idea that anything like that existed.

Oh yeh another cool thing about pulling it all apart is I get to blast all that Miami sand and road dirt out from behind everything. There was probably 5 lbs of sand and filth behind those fenders haha.
