Ok I asked my buddy about the holes in the bumper. He said they use a product made by Dupont called "Rubber Bumper Repair" He said it is a two part epoxy, works great and does a perfect job. So it looks like "Duraglass" for the body and "Rubber Bumper Repair" for the bumpers. Oh yeh he just told me....mines done haha

Nice pictures. There is nothing like a shark with a fresh paint job on it. Too bad I screwed up the bumper covers on mine.

Where is this guy at? Sounds like the guy I want to redo my front and rear bumper covers.

Jeff,

Good work, something I'll be doing down the road. Where are you getting the paint and new trim from?

No trim is going back on unless you mean the window trims. The paint will be a dupont two stage match of the original metallic burgundy the we're puttin a red pearl overlay from house of color on it to make it a little redder and just a step off of stock to match the rims a bit. If it looks like I'm picturing it it will be great. I'm thinking of doing the center of the seats and inlays of the door panels a darker grey on the black that exists and matching the carpet to the grey. Then getting those trick little brushed stainless trim kits for the int ***** and shifter from http://www.jageng.com/interiorprogram.htm I think that is the coolest 928 page on the net hahaha I wish I had more than 1 car so I could buy everything on there. I sure hope I run out of things to do before I run out of money haha

Ya, I meant window trim, haha!

I lost all my 928 bookmarks and had a paint place saved so I'm trying to figure out who to use when the time comes around. My shark don't have the side trim and I like it. But that trim is probably saving the door from getting whacked.

Yeh no doubt they save the doors haha. I like the way it looks WITH the trim. I always thought it made a nice line and like the way they taper at the ends. But Dude assured me that I'd like it even better without it and showed me some pics. I was like "...I dont know..." nervously thinking of goofballs against it with their doors trying to fit their butts in their cars with a weeks worth of of trash from walmart in their hands..while they are thinking "they shouldnt be parked so close" when thye parked there after me and me catching them trying to stay cool hahahaha. man I hope that never happens I can see me staring at them waiting for the cops (my wife works for the P.D.) and me chewing up the whole bottle of pepcid AC's I just bought, powder all over the front of my shirt. WHEWW HOOOO hahahaha its on baby!!

I've mentioned before, that I have a 4-runner, and a 928.
I swap them out all the time.
I go to the same places with them, park in the same lots, etc...
The 928, in all the years I have had it, never has gotten even one door ding.
The 4-Runner, in under a year's time, already has 3-4, and people have backed
into the underside of my front bumper, and dented the sheet metal, etc...

People treat "regular cars" like bumper cars.

But I think they give the 928 a bit more respect.
Same way you might be a "little" more careful, opening your door next to a new Ferarri...

So have hope.

You may not have problems with door dings.

I have noticed that people treat my buddy's hummer with a lot of respect. no hits. Also on the other side of the spectrum I have a 1990 silver Ford E350 Econoline that the paint is so dead it looks grey, greasy hand prints and visible fist dents (with all the knuckle marks) from the hate that I have for it hahahahaha and nobody ever gets near it hahahaa Not to mention thta it would probably ruin any nice clothes that came in contact with it. It doesnt ever have a problem changing lanes either.....signal on a slight swerve and people just yeild to the filthy beast haha.... I would too!

Jeff - the 928 looks significantly sleeker and rounder without the side trim. You've made the right choice in deleting it.

Here's a comparison of similar model years of the same colour -

jeff,

its not so difficult to update to the S4 wing spoiler on the back. i did this with mine using new trim pieces from porsche, the clips go into the existing holes using a bit of sealant as well.

Geezus Jeff, you look bigger then when i met you last year. That is one heck of a project you got going on there, No wonder i couldnt find you when i drove thru the neighborhood a few months back. You had the car put up.

Speaking as a guy with no body side mouldings, i also say you've made the right choice. It looks so much better without them. Make sure you install H4 headlights to complete the totally modern look. It would be a shame to do all that restoration work only to put the chrome trimed lights back on.

No worries Jeff, whatever works for you... I guess hahaha can work with bwwaaah, bwwaaah, bwwwaaaahhhh!!! Me, I prefer a low and somewhat sinister heh, heh, heh, but that's just me.

You mention considering a body kit, but have you considered spending some time just flaring or at least rolling the fenders for some additional clearance? With those less than perfect offset wheels you may be able to go up a couple of tire sizes with some added clearance. Kibort and others have hammer flared there fenders with good results without anything added except some soothing with body filler.

Here's Kibort's track car posterior sporting 335s!

Again, thanks for sharing and keep us updated on the progress... great stuff!

Bill
