She clearly went after what she thought would do the most emotional damage to you. Your flipping out is exactly the result that she was looking for (and maybe hunting her down & tuning her up). Laughing it off, moving on & replacing the damaged goods is exactly the right thing to do....which you've clearly already done.
You'll be able to let the steam off in other ways (looks like you have many options).
She needs to hear that you didn't take it so badly....in fact it allowed you to replace the damaged goods, & upgrade to a much better model....just like you did with her.
BTW, you're apparently not alone. This guy's revenge may have felt good at the time, but taking it out on her car was probably more painful to him than to her:

I'd press felony charges too. And also sue for damages.
Not because I'm mean and vindictive, but because I believe in the principle of justice and in the rule of law.

McVic, You know I have to chime in here. <shaking head in utter disbelief> I don't know man. I guess it would all boil down to what I did to heras for as the justice I would seek.I guess move forward with your new ride. You did bring us in on a nice resto and for that we as a group appreciate it and the work you have done. You are now a charter member of a small group to have completed such a task. Well I dont know if I have said it already guys and gals but thanks........ You guys are alllllriiggght haha. I fly out tomorrow to pick up new project. I have talked to the owner a few times....a real neat English acent haha and so far the thing's supposed to be REAL pristine. As far as stock goes. Lotta money but I was sad at the time hahaha and exercizing some therapy. It seems to be working pretty well by the way. The up side is I will be able to join some of you at the get togethers sooner than expected and that is fine with me! 
Oh yeh by the way.........I feel that I may have deserved a beatin..... but my car didnt. haha
