Default My new 86.5

Hello all!

I was asked to post some pictures of my new 928 by a knowledgeable member I asked some audio questions ( thanks Alan)so here goes, I'm not a good photographer so apologies in advance. First off thanks to Ed (Linderpat) for the help he provided when I was making the purchase.
The car is a original family owned car purchased new in Scottsdale by the Aunt of the nephew I bought it from went to Ca. And now in NV( I have the original sales contract, check and window sticker and many records) 55,352k original miles. Garaged, amazing exterior and interior. When I went to look at the car the seller did not want me to start the car because it hadn't had a timing belt done in 15k miles and 14 years. It had been sparingly driven on short drives, 2k miles driven since 2012 and didn't want to spend the money on maintenance ( the owner loved the car and it was very difficult for him to part with it) We fired it up, the lifters were a bit loud for about 2-3 minutes and then she purred. I bit the bullet called the flatbed and drove it 20 feet onto the flatbed and off to the shop it went. Everything checked, compression all 170's, torque tube within spec, all fluids, tires, all ignition parts, fuel hoses, steering rack,A/C a long list.
I must add, I hadn't driven a 928 in 30+ years, it was always one of my top 5 dream cars. I can't legally drive it until I register it on 8/18 but I take it for quick drives periodically. Thursday she gets new driver passenger ceramic tint and the suspension looked at.It also an amazing audio system thought it's 20 years old the speakers,head-unit and amplifier are all high end. (Previous owner was a audiophile, but ran the front crossovers to the driver/passenger front decks and the amp and rear crossovers to the hatch area, ugly, I've unhooked all and it will all be relocated properly.

Roger @928srus helped me with all my parts too, thanks Roger!

Here we go with the pic's.

Very Nice!! Does it need any major corrective maintenance?

Gorgeous Joe - a beautiful car. My 86.5 was the same color too, but my interior was dark blue. Yours is so much better, as it is a nice contrast with the exterior iris blue metallic. It looks like a new car. You have a keeper for sure. Get that final work done (your shocks) and drive the wheels off it!

Babado,
To your questions:

How difficult is it to pull the door cards without damaging them?
Here is how you remove the door cards: http://jenniskens.livedsl.nl/Technic...el_removal.pdf relatively easy but a little time consuming*
- NB See Theo's other accumulated tips at : http://jenniskens.livedsl.nl/Technic...s/TechTips.htm

* little risk of damage here in removal - but a word of advice - get yourself a 2 pin weather proof connector set. When you remove the door panel you will have hard wired connections to the crossover for the speakers - cut this at a convenient point and remove the door card - then install the connectors. Without this the door card needs to be kept near the door and this is awkward and leads to more potential for damage & difficulty working on the back of it.

Is the center console difficult to get out, I need to run front/rear and Sub RCA cables down the center? I assume this is the best way to get cables back to the spare tire area where I would like to mount the amp and rear crossovers?
The carpeted side panels to the console come out easily - screws & clips - that's all you need to remove. I'd run cable to the back across below the dash then along the driver or passenger sills - under the cover for the amp etc (or under the handbrake cover) and back along the side - then under/beside the rear seat(s). Using the center adds complications for routing.

Can I run the amplifier power directly to the battery and ground strap? Audison SR5 amplifier.
You can connect the amp to the battery but should fuse the amplifier (unless it has its own built in fuse). There is a ground point above the battery & in the front part (wrt the car) of the spare tire well (behind a plastic cover) - use that one. Protect the positive cable well - you don't want to do any welding!

Alan

This car would benefit so much from a pair of S4 rear wheels.

Thank you Alan!

Ok, makes sense removing the panels completely and replacing the connectors.
Understand on the center console, need to find quality RCA's that are not too thick.
Amplifier has its own 40A fuse. Good on positive protection at the battery and the grounding area.

Learning new things and finding I need to search everything, I was playing with the rear hatch light ( not working) and now I have now interior lights and the hatch won't open, Lol crazy.

I agree Bauer... not happening now though.
