Why so many cars? What is the deal?

I don't know. Maybe I come from a diffrent mind set.

I figure if you'd stabalize on one car, say a 944 or a 928, or 911, or whatever, and then droped what you normaly pay in car payments and/or what you pay in the required trade up fees and PPI, by now you'd be able to afford that C4.

I have owned a 944; 944S; 911SC; 928S 1985; and another same; and auto S4 and 5-speed S4, and various BMW; Mercedes and other that do not deserve to be mentioned.

Why?

Because there is something unique about each one. If I had space and could afford it I would never sell another sportscar.

One thing confuses me: Your signature says "...Untill I can afford that '98 C4s". If that is really your dream, why not sell all the others and get what you really want? Maybe then you can commit long term...

I'm glad you have chosen to give the 928 another chance. As I said in my first post - these issues probably all have simple causes and are not necessarily tough to fix.

Make sure you check fuses, ignition wires (open hood at night, watch for light show), and vacuum system (get a MityVac or have a mechanic do it)

Best of luck!

Oilslick,
If you would have stuck it out alittle longer, you would have gotten to the best part of the 928 ownership.
Some people just cant make up their minds.....

Ok, I was wrong.. And it makes me glad..

Almost every used car has got some things that needs to be taken car of the the P.O. has either not cared for or that just happens to go wrong while you own it. Take your time and fix one thing at the time until you have it covered, then you'll know the car and all the work that has been done recently. Also find a mechanic that does not only solve the problems but also knows the type of car and have him/her drive the car and inspect it - then they will get familiar with the car and you both will be able to communicate about the feeling of it.

I'm sure Freud (sp?) could get to the bottom of why I can't just keep a car. To tell you the truth, I LOVE looking at cars. My wife teases me about the fact that any car I drive, I say "boy, this sure drives well", or "WOW! this thing sure has some guts!" I just like to have something different. I think I was meant to be a billionaire with a stable full of the finest cars from Germany and, of course, Italy. I can't really afford to have more than about $15,000 in my toy car, so that's why I don't have the C4S. I might be able to squeeze it out if that were my only car, but I would be a nervous wreck and impossible to live with if I did that. I like the idea of my nice daily driver in addition to a nice $12k to $15k Porsche. I can live with that. Sure it costs me money to trade so often, but not any more than most people pay in car payments and I am never bored with my car!
Don't make fun of me too much for my compulsive car trading, at least I don't insist on referring to the color of my car in German! (just giving you a hard time Anders!)
Hey, the first step is admitting you have a problem, right?

This post smells is bull **** to me. Sold a boxster because its a chick car? Sorry but I never seen a person dump a car because of somebody elses BS theory towards it.

Unless I see pics or something to prove 25 Porsches in 17 years its just sounds like TGF crap to me. Somethings says 17 year old HS kid to me. But thats my opinion.

Ah, but in your post history you say in this thread.

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...threadid=48253

It's been my experience that a Porsche with a salvage title is a little bit of a bastard in that you will probably never sell the car. It may or may not be "right" and when you go to upgrade, people can be downright insulting with their offers. I had an '84 928 with a scrap title that looked and drove perfectly but it took me 7 months to sell it for $3800. I'd hold out and spend another grand for the right car.

So either your can't keep your stories straight or you lying.

Aside from the 25 Porsches you claimed to have owned you claim.

1997 Boxster (Silver/red 30k)
1997 Boxster (silver/black 51k)mistake!

Plus the Lexus you claimed to have had.

1994 SC300

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then you have this list which is a bit different that the one above.

1997 Boxster 44k Black/black (Bought as a my everyday driver in January 2004. Forgot what a chick car they are so I sold it and bought my current Jaguar XJR)
1997 Boxster black/red 30k (Bought a Jackie Cooper in Tulsa in the summer of 2002. Liked it, but got tired of people calling it a chick car.)
1995. Liked the airbag dash, but hated the late offset wheels.)
1994 968 cab midnight/tan (I sold my purple 968 and couldn't live without another one. In late 1998 Reaves found me another one!)
1992 968 cab amethyst/grey (traded the C4 in 1998. This was also from Reaves.)
1992 C4 55k amethyst/black (I bought this car sight unseen on Ebay in 2001. It exceeded my expectations. This was a cool car. )
1991 C4 cab 91k guards/tan (Bought from our local school superintendant in the late fall of 2002. Drove it until it was about to go over 100k and sold it on Ebay to 2 brothers who planned to share it. I don't know how that worked out.)
1991 C2 cab-tip 48k amethyst/grey (Bought from John Reaves in the summer of 2003. The tiptronic drove me crazy, I like to shift a 911 so I sold it to a guy in Dallas.)
1989 C4 61k guards/black(Bought in Tulsa in 1996. Had some nice mods. Bought from John Reaves. I highly recommend him as a great wrench too!)
1989 951 72k black/black (This was a really nice car that I had for almost a year in 2000-2001. Sold it to Jason in Florida and I think he is still enjoying it.)

1986 951 94k guards/black (Very nice car, I went to Florida to get it in the 1986 928S 93k Black/tan (bought in October 2003. My current headache!)
winter of 2000 Sold it on Ebay after about 6 months, just got bored.)
1984 911 targa guards/black (I had this car for 3 months in 1999. Not too impressed, but it was tight.)
1980 911 96k gold/linen(traded the 44S in late '92, hated the color but a really nice car. Owned it the longest of all my cars.)

So after reading thru your posts. I think you have owned some Porsches but lied about quite a few. You have 2 different version of the lists of Porsches you claimed to have owned. Then you also have another asortment of straglers not one fitting into the list.

1967 MGB GT
1995 993 cab
1995 325iC
1998 M3

Now way you owned a 928 and forget about it! Nobody on Earth forgets they had a shark, nobody! Or can't remember how many 951 you had. Some stuff don't add up. Everytime I see stuff like this from a person who isn't a rennlist member it turns out BS.

With 50 cars under your belt before 36 years old you should be able to afford a $16 dollar membership for the 1/2 million dollars in Porsches you've had if your the fanatic about Porsches you claim you are, but thats just me and my little shark and membership ideas of mine.

Tom,

Nice work. I notice more than a dozen cars that differ between the lists.

But why would someone bother to fabricate such a thing?

Maybe his dad was a used car dealer that let his kid drive whatever off the lot...

The cars he has had are no big deal, I have had more and I'm only 23(I buy and sell---alot).

The one thing that his cars all have in common is that they are used and old. I see alot of buyers like this. Champaign lovers with beer pockets. What he needs is a new car with new car warranty.....

red ufo,
the first list of old was posted in about 5 minutes and included some of my family's cars. I'll tell you what... because I evidently nedd your approval for my own self esteem, I have pictures at my office of most, if not all my cars. Some are digital and some are paper (which I will scan) and most are in front of my house or my parents house, so they will share a similar background so you will know I didn't use someone elses pictures. I will post them here on Monday. Would I then have your approval? I don't understand why anyone would think I would make up owning a car, but I'll do this so I won't worry that you think I'm a liar. Fair enough?

HYK,
Someone offered you 21K? Good for you and all 928s and 928 owners. They all deserve more than the average market value.

You've posted some performance #s on e-bay. I commend you fror it. Now get a leak down and/or compression test and even people on Rennlist will buy it from you.

Best of luck,
Andy K
