These are the 'Bee's Knees' - especially if you can source the engine mount cooler "snorkels" that fit/rivet perfectly onto them.

Lost 2 plastic ones before mounting this ~15 years ago. Still fine - quite a few scrapes - and snorkels are still there!

Alan

PS 'Bee's Knees' = a very good thing

Mark, I have one of those probably from the same vendor from long ago that I never installed but that I have been kind of redesigning around. I have always wondered just what the little duct/vent in the center of the rear of that pan is for. Do you have any idea?

AH! Thanks Jeff. Here is another one for you. In respect to the two upright vents off of the NACA ducts, the one on the right has a square-like flap opened to blow air forward in addition to the air going back to the motor mount. What is the square-like opening for?

Someone tried in the past but it wound up being extremely expensive to stamp them out so it got sh!tcanned along with some other reasons...

[QUOTE=Speedtoys;18342992]Seriously, why isnt anyone just making the vents...[/QUOTE

I had started working up some forming dies to make some of these a long time ago. In the middle of that I think Joe announced that he was going to do the same and, as I recall, he was going to make his available for free to all comers. I stopped my work on the dies and have since gone on with other projects. I still have one of the dies around here somewhere and it's mating female die, but I'll need to do a search since I don't see them over in the pile of 928 stuff that I look at every day.

As a follow-up to my early belly pan project I was thinking about redesigning the later pans and was thinking about redesigning these vents a little for that project. I may still do that, but I expect that with Kevin's later pan thru Roger and now Mark's pans available the market is going to be pretty thin. I am still curious though to see if I can actually form these vents either out of aluminum or stainless steel.

OK! This need had really gone on just too long. I am pretty sure that I can make these vents, or my own design of them, out of either aluminum or stainless steel. I am now deciding to do just that. However the design of them is going to be focused on my own design of the later belly pan, so it will have to be adjusted some to accomotade the other belly pans available. I'm gong to do it that way.

The major difference in these vents is that they are both going to be kind of thin, much like the left original one. The fat one on the right is going to have the top square opening eliminated. That means that in order to fit the early pans there needs ot be some adjustment in how the vents relate to the Naca ducts. I think I have that pretty much figured out.

I am going to need to develop three sets of dies to make these. One set for the back of the vents; one set for the fronts and one set for what will end up as my NACA ducts, but also for the extension of the right fat vent for the other original pans.

And, just so you know in advance, the price for my vents for the other belly pans is going to be $200 per pair, whatever they are made of. The Price for these with my new design of belly pan is going to be $150 and the pan is going to be $350. Actually you will not be able to buy my new design of belly pan by itself, so $500 for the set.

I hope I can find my origianl pair of dies, but if not I'll simply make a new set. My new design may be a little different anyway.

P.S. I apologize for invading Mark's thread about these. I'll start a new thread about my endeavors shortly. Sorry Mark.

Thanks, Mark. And I expect that is where I bought mine in about 2008. Given that number I expect that need for the vents is still pretty great.
