At that point it was a matter of lining up and pressing on the trim, then reseating the trim clips at the gaps.

nice! It's like it never happened.

OMG, it's been CARMAGEDDON here!

Stitch
Stitch is obviously out of the fight with a shattered windshield. I called the glass guy to see if I was still on his list, and he assured me I was, just that he's been busy as hell. No real worries, but it would be nice to have Stitch in the driving rotation again.
Finn
I got a notice about recall work on Finn, my '05 VR6 Cayenne with 187k on the clock. I call the dealer for an appointment and yesterday I dropped it off. Today when I picked it up it was undriveable. It wouldn't even hold an idle. I drive it about 300 feet, park it in front of the dealership, and go back in to tell the service manager that it's not running.

Him: "It was doing that when we got it."
Me: "Uhh... No. Because I drive it all over the place. If it was doing that when I dropped it off, I wouldn't have been able to get here, because I can't even drive it off your lot like it is. The only thing that has changed is whatever you did."
Him: "My service guy said it was running like that when he pulled it into the bay."
Me: "You drove it out and parked it in your lot after I dropped it off. It wasn't doing that."
Him: "No, it wasn't. Okay, we'll take a look at it."

In over 100k miles of my ownership, that's the first time it's been to the dealership and only the second time that truck has left me stranded. I am incredibly annoyed with Porsche. Not just because they f*ed up my truck, but because the service manager gave me the 'it was doing that when it got here' B.S. I expect more from one of the most prestigious and profitable car companies in the world.
Ferris
Trinity is going to Harrisburg for the weekend. She calls me to say she has a flat on I-83 - a terrifyingly busy road - and does she have what she needs to get the spare on. She does, and she can handle changing a tire, but the idea of her doing it on I-83 is terrifying. I wouldn't want to change a tire there. But the tread has complete separated and she has no choice. So, she does it and a short time later, she's on her way. She's dropping the wheel off for a new tire, she she'll be good to go when she heads home on Sunday.
Warren
Warren, the '87 911, as been sick. For some reason he decided not to start a couple weeks ago. It's not a huge deal, since I'm trading him away soon, but it's an annoyance. I went out last night to give it one more try, and he started! So I drove him to my CAP squadron meeting and back and found that the front brake calipers are sticking badly, and he's effectively undriveable. As I said: he's getting traded, so it's not a crisis, but what a pain in the ***. Especially since...
Reuben
I'm having lunch with a friend at a local diner. I jump into Reuben - my last running car - and drive away. I get two blocks and he's not happy. Running rough and won't take throttle. Obviously he was running like a champ a couple weeks ago when he was a Frenzy, and the week before when I drove him to New Hampshire and back without a hiccup. I look at the fuel gauge and it's at half, so I'm thinking that maybe the fuel gauge is off and he's just low on fuel. I limp to a local gas station and put 11.2 gallons in, which is not a lot. I fire him up and, same problem. I limp him home and park him (by this time I'm late for lunch!) and, before getting out, I give him a couple revs. He sort of revs up, but he's missing and there's a backfire or two. I can smell gas. I go inside and Cat goes, "Short lunch", and I explain that Reuben is sick. She goes, "You have five cars, and none of them is working?" I admit that this is the case, and can I borrow her Jeep. She says, "Of course. Just don't break it." Ha ha, you're a riot, Hon.

I'm driving back from lunch and I'm thinking about Reuben again, and I feel like the problem is ignition related. Like, there's not a consistent spark. I mull on that, and decide to take a look at the distributor when I get home. I pop Reuben's hood and one of the retaining clips on the distributor has popped loose! I grab a screwdriver and reseat it, fire Reuben up. He idles happily and revs like nothing ever happened! One car fixed! And I'm super happy that I diagnosed it myself (I suck at diagnosing!).
And now I'm thinking that the problem with Finn might be a blown fuse on the primary fuel pump. But I'll let Porsche worry about that.

Happy that you fixed Reuben.
But I would be afraid of the Porsche bill for Finn...
Good lack and let us know how it will turn out.

Okay, Finn is home and he's running pretty much like he was before. The dealership pulled everything connected to the fuel pumps apart and put it all back together and now Finn runs like he has for the last couple years since I put those fuel pumps in. Funny how that works.

The other thing from that trip was that they diagnosed a bad transfer case servo motor. Estimate for repair: $2,800! I poked around on the internet and I can get the part (which is common to all 955 Cayennes and the Touareg) for $250, and I found a YouTube video that demonstrates the repair. This motor assembly mounts on the outside of the transfer case with three 10mm bolts, two 8mm bolts, and two electrical connectors. $2,800? For what? Even allowing for an $800 OEM part, how in the hell does Porsche get off charging $2k for 30 minutes work?

I don't think I'll ever take a car to Porsche for service again.

Yeah, they charged the PO of my GTS $1200 to change the plug wires. And the servo motor change is at least twice as hard. I mean, you have to actually open a tool box.
