Talking Ford F350 Diesel SMOKES "white car"

If you already downloaded the video I posted to the Diesel Power thread, it's the same one I'm linking below.

What do you all think of this video(5MB)? How do you think you would have fared against this monster? I would really be interested if anyone reading this has been able to beat the trap time shown in this video in their shark. I did see the thread recently that had a couple of blue drag sharks shown, but I'm too lazy to find the link right now, and besides, I'm talking about cars you can drive every day.

Before this blows up into a big drag racing flame war, let me just say that I respect drag racing as a sport, and to me performance there is just a data point. With a time slip one can say, "OK, under the right circumstances this car can be driven to this level of acceleration performance." But I never forget that there are 4 other cardinal directions from which forces can act on the car(well, 5, but hopefully never happens) and where performance can be quantified and improved, and for the kind of driving that interests me they are all at least equally important.

I have to say, my reaction when I first saw this video was:
then then . Enjoy...

Gotta admit, a sub 12 anything is good. An F350 (probably BUlly dog nitrous and propane injected) is really good. I'm not up on the math, but that truck probably wheighed well above 4000lbs and had tires to match. Not too shabby!

WOW! I was expecting 13sec or so.

It porbably could have towed a trailer full of RX7s and still beat the white one.

Damn, thats one heck of a motor!?!?!

I'd like to know all he's done to that thing.

Anyone else notice the trucks reaction time was a bit slow?

Btw, what kind of car was the wite one? Some sort of coupe, but I'm not sure what type that might be.

Some guy around here has one that does 14's. He says that it just has some fuel mods and a chip! He also said something about 750 foot-pounds of torque...

for all your psychotic diesel needs

www.bullydog.com

Viribus, that was an RX-7 probably an '88 or so and possibly a turbocharged model.

I'd like to see that guy handle a road course in any other fashion than rolling straight over it though, and I bet he can't autocross that sucker worth a damn either. Heck, he probably can't even parallel park it.

LOL... I remember this video from last year actually. Knew what it was when I saw the thread title.

The trucks reaction was slow because diesel's don't react well... and the F350's are downright unresponsive to throttle. My boss has a 2000 dually that he uses as a tow-vehicle. With a CAI and a chip he put down 750lb-ft and will get all 4 rear tires powersliding on a 1 second delay fuse when wanted

A friend of ours down the street from out shop has an older F350 Dually putting down over 850lb-ft... though I haven't talked to him about his mods.

It's fun in it's own rite, and seriously, I'm not sure how we look powersliding a dually a little bit... but I bet it'll make people's jaws drop "WTF is that doing??" LOL

To the RX-7's defense: it looks like he went off early (started rolling) and then just gave up. Other than that, impressive run for a truck. But does it have an air conditioned glove box and 12 way adjustable seats??

I recently bought a 2004 F250 crew cab (King Ranch edition) with the 6.0L turbodiesel (stock it has 325HP @3300rpm & 560 ft-lb torque @ 2000rpm).
Only transmission choice is 5-spd auto (and it is great!). Just passed 2000 miles on the odometer and my combined mileage is 20.4 mpg. It does have surprisingly good straight-line performance, but the truck in the video must be burning solid rocket fuel. I've read about devices to reprogram boost and shift points, but I had no idea a sub-12 quarter was possible! Wow! I haven't been impressed like that since 1966, when I saw a Minicooper S eat up a GranSport 'vette on a SCCA road course.

One thing worth keeping in mind, this guy was most likely in 4WD, or he would have baked his tires trying to get that much power to the ground with that beast. A couple of different places put the F350 crew cab + extended cab with the 8' bed, 4WD, turbo diesel at 5600 lbs. I'm using the following formula:

HPq = (0.00426 x MPH)3 x WEIGHT

Courtesy of Edelbrock

They have a disclaimer that this is less accurate over 100mph. Well, it's not MUCH over... I plugged in 118MPH and 6000 pounds (bumpers, fender stuff, wheels, etc.) and I come up with 762HP. I don't care if that estimate is off by 50HP either way, I'm still impressed.

My last post about Ford diesels on the 928 board.

Banks Engineering (http://www.bankspower.com/) brags it can increase Ford Powerstroke 6.0L RWHP from 236 to 384hp and RWT from 467 to 690 ft-lbs. I say it takes a lot more than that to run mid 11sec in a 4wd truck.

Back to Porsches...
