Added an '81 Euro 5-speed

Most of the accessory drive belts look wrong (too wide).

i don't think a bit to wide can hurt... it remains the sides of the V that take the friction as it should.
Yes Petza, just look for another thinner V belt pulley.... most have the same 17 mm bore. We have them here in all dimensions at local specialist shop.
Sometimes they need to be machined for alignment or contrary a washer added.

Ran across another 928 (1980 Euro) with a similar engine (M28/41) with the earlier CIS euro upper. Not sure if the link will work..
but he's asking $9700 for what looks pretty good overall.

Maybe the 84 and up bottom end and 83 and earlier upper end is more common that we think?

It must have been more obvious in the past ,in case of block failure ,to use a more recent model ( or even new) and build the CIS over instead of going conversion with ECU's for electronic injection
The car drives very good with that setup , i can only assume the MPG suffer a tiny bit.

So, that alternator pulley is all wrong. I ordered a replacement and since I had to remove almost every belt to swap the worn alternator belt, I decided to go get the good ones I like from Napa. The rubber is much better quality and the teeth are flattened out where they run on the flat part of the pulley. The belts from O'Reilly feel more plastic-y and don't feel good.
Napa had to order me the long air pump and fan belt, so while waiting on that, I took the opportunity to clean up a bunch of accumulated oil, grease, and dirt that collected on all the brackets. Ran them through the umtrssonic parts washer and cleaned up the oil pan. Found a lot of the oil pan bolts really loose, even considering the really light torque spec, so lightly tightened them all and maybe that will slow down the leaking that made the big cruddy mess there.
At some point down the road, I'll pull this motor and seal it up with Greg's new gasket, but for now, woeking on the rest of it, starting with the interior.
Also sandblasted the mediocre belly pan that was on the car to get it ready for paint. If it was a nicer pan, I'd powdercoat it, but I'll use this one until Jerry's new stainless ones are in production.
Compare this pic to the previous one with the worn belt and you'll see the difference in the brackets and oil pan grooves. Waiting to reassemble and tighten once I have a proper alternator pulley and the air/fan belt. Should be this weekend.

Pete nice machine good luck with your new project,
IDK if you already checked but that broken lower fan shroud is indicative of broken motor mounts,
and possibly trans mounts.
if this is a 5 speed then check the release arm bushing

Also, from these pictires can you tell me what brakes these are - are they the normal ones for an 81 or has someone already upgraded them to S4 versions, as the front rotors are slotted. The clutch slave and brake system is next on the list as I don't think even with full pedal force I could get the wheels to skid. My Spyder stops like I've snatched a tail hook on a carrier but is has high dollar GTS brakes on it too.

those are the oem single piston "floating" calipers for a '81 .

Thanks Barry. So a brake upgrade is likely in my future, at least to S4, if not to the same GTS setup I did on the other car. Maybe I'll get big red ones for the Spyder to match all the underhood stuff and move the big blacks to the Euro.

yes, 928M sells those adapters to mount the 4 piston "Brembo's" .
I bought those adaptors and overhauled calipers/ new discs for my '82 rally car. In 2008 they only had adaptors in alu , but i think now also in steel.
My street legal '82 i changed to a '90 GT suspension , so i had the big brakes at the same time without adaptors.

For now, I'll flush the fluid, replace the rubber lines with SS, go to a better pad material and see what I've got.

if you keep them for now , also clean and grease the sliding pins. As far i know those can give problems ( rusted/stick ? ) .
As you can see the caliper housing pulls on the outer pad , the piston pushes the inner pad. Those are sliding on 2 "pins" .
