Default Thought I had seen it ALL !!!

I have seen everything from a 928 chassis being welding diagonally the full length of the car using an 83 on one side and an 89GT on the other side... to a beautiful 93 GTS being butchered.. BUT this takes the cake !!!

See if you can spot the "infraction" !!!

Always inspect your 928 suspensions carefully !!!

I don't see anything suspect except for what appears to be a WELDED SUSPENSION ARM!. WOW!!!! Was it done with "allumiloy?" Ya know that stuff's supposed to be REEEEAAALL strong. Hope that's not your car... :eek

Hey be nice. It may be totally necessary to save the few dollars and in stead of using a good used part, put the occupants' lives at risk!! Now here's the real question .... how did they manage to get there in the first place?

I guess those arms ARE hollow. And if there was enough force put on that end WITHOUT THE BUSHINGS MOVING, then it COULD break like that. What I mean is if that arms inner bushings seized, then they would not let the arm move up and down well.

Maybe they put some ghetto "outside the fender" whees on too.

Never know, depends on how it was done. I've seen some clever welding over the years. When I worked at a BWM shop here in town, there was a 635 that had the whole front end clipped on, it had literally been cut in half and welded together. That did not qualify as clever welding.

I would have replaced that arm, would seem like it would have been less $ in the long run...

I guess that's one way to get a little extra camber.

True, but in this case something was not done right. Check out this photo and notice that the lower spring plate is catching on the upper control arm and bending the spring plate....

The only hope is that somebody didn't have a clue about the availability of used parts, went to the dealer, was quoted more than the value of the car for a new arm, and decided to take their best shot.

All that, and the aluminum ball joint carrier seems to be intact?
The bent spring plate may well have happened when the control arm seperated - it would be tough to jig and weld that far out of spec, but the impossible is often reality.
Anyway, a good eye for another entry to "The Chamber of 928 Horrors".

With that title, I thought it was going to be the "spider man" car again...
