Congrats, Dave! I've seen Louie a couple of times going back to the 2009 OCIC. Very impressive modifications and the execution thereof. Enjoy the car!

Here are a couple of pics from 3rd Coast last fall under Darien's excellent stewardship.

Hi,
Here is a list of changes I did. Near as I can recollect.

Louie1990 Porsche 928 GT

Engine size increase (bore & stroke) from 5.0L to 6.5 L. Built by Devek.
  • Devek B1 camshafts.
  • 104mm bore, 3.75” stroke. Block work by Devek.
  • Rods are Oliver Chevy (can't remember specs)
  • 39mm intake valves. Headwork by Devek.
  • Compression ratio 10.5:1
  • Oil control work by Ott's Performance includes:

  1. Crank scrapers to strip oil from the rotating crank and shield oil from being fed up the oil drainback holes from the head.
  2. Oil control screen under the crank to keep oil from hitting the pan and bouncing back into the crank.
  3. reworked oil pickup and sump cover inside the sump to keep oil from splashing in the sump.
  4. Re-worked breather system to separate oil from blowby gases and vent blowby to atmosphere and return oil to the sump.
  5. 3/8" oil sump spacer to lower oil away from the crank. This required a smaller, IMI, gear driven starter. Recently replaced.

  • Custom individual throttle intake system designed and built by Ott’s Performance. Uses 50mm TWM Induction components.
  • DTA P8Pro engine control computer installed and tuned by Ott’s Performance. Sequential injection. Wasted spark ignition. No distributors.
  • J&S Safeguard vampire individual cylinder knock control. www.jandssafeguard.com/VampirePage/
  • Bosch 044 fuel pump fed by relay direct from battery.
  • 200 proof ethanol injection at WOT.
  • 591 SAE corrected rear wheel hp and 510 lb ft rear wheel torque (with alcohol).
  • Devek L2 exhaust headers. Ceramic coated.
  • Stainless steel dual 3” dia. X crossover exhaust designed and built by Ott’s Performance.
  • Oil cooler moved to the rear with auxiliary cooling fan.
  • Wider rear fenders designed and built by Ott’s Performance.
  • Functional air scoop in the left rear fender to feed cool air to the engine oil cooler.
  • Transmission oil cooler built and installed by Ott’s Performance.
  • Transmission cooler air fed by scoop inside the rear of the right rear fender. Trans cooler outlet air exits from vents in the rear bumper cover.
  • Accusump in rear bumper.
  • On board car computer (Windows XP OS) using custom software created by Ott’s Performance to display engine and transmission temperatures, pressures, 8 cyl exhaust gas temperature, and to control oil cooling fan and trans cooling pump.
  • Suspension features Hypercoil springs, 600 front, 450 rear. Koni external adjustable shocks. Devek adjustable front sway bar. Ott’s Performance rear sway bar links.
  • Wheels are 10” wide front, 12” wide rear x 17”dia. Tires are 245/45 R17 front, 315/35/ R17 rear. 335 tires fit well on the rear if you want. Centers are Kinesis. Right rear rim has curb rash. Rubber is about ½ gone in front and rear. The rear tires are track tires so didn't have deep tread when new. Tire wear is even across the tread.
  • 928 GP White paint with blue tint by Ty Tibbets in The Dalles, Oregon. Paint is in excellent condition and has "Clear Bra" covering to eliminate chips and scratches.
  • Headlights are H4 with bright white LED from Woodypecker.
  • Rear seat delete. Roll bar. Many other modifications. Valentine V1 radar detector and laser jammer built in. Everything works. Handling is outstanding.

Thanks Louie!

I see substantial oil control measures have contributed to the stability of the engine over the long haul. Other devices worth noting are the J&S individual cylinder knock controllers. Pre-detonation is one of the most dangerous threats to high specific output engines...

Darien has informed me that the tires are all new and the rears are in fact 335's now.

I am soooo tempted to head south to Texas to pick the car up, but with the world on lock-down, I'd b pushing my and others luck with spreading the virus.

Einstein has his "Theory Of Relativity" regarding th passage of time, I have one as well: "The perceived speed of time is relative to which side of the bathroom door you are on".

I was lucky enough to drive this at Sharks At The Lake many years ago.....maybe 2006-7 when louie 1st built it.......I was catching rides with people during the fun since Sharky was down due to a last minute fuel pump issue.... It might have been when the beast was first built so I started with Tim in that at I believe 515whp ORR racer (later went 209.9) then their very nice GTS and finally Louie let me drive his......a very nice well sorted 928.....I was too scared to really give it any gas....

It is difficult to stay home and not go south to Texas to retrieve "Louie the Beast". Plus Darien is waiting for me... ;-)

My wife read the Excellence article and is now encouraging me to make the trip alone while traffic is minimal... (She's a car gurl)... Love that!

Drive times on Google have dropped precipitously and now it is only a 19 hour 2 minute jaunt since there is so little traffic on the roads. Leave at 4:00 am and arrive at 10:00 pm. I'm absolutely certain that I can make the drive without contacting another person (stay away Darien) and will wear a proper N 95 mask and gloves at the few filling stations I will stop at... If I go, alone - on a hit and run mission???

My home state has a shelter in place order in effect but under paragraph 9 (i) dealers can transport cars as long as there is no showroom open. My attorney says that the exception is not specific to my situation... So I called the Michigan State Police - explained that the transaction needs to be completed and they told me they are not pulling people over for anything like this. Their only requirement was that I obey traffic laws! That was a surprise and I'm thinking about a solo shot down and back Tuesday through Thursday.

So... another off the hook adventure in Big Blue is likely to commence:

Plus - somebody has to burn some diesel fuel so it does not get stale!

Wish me luck!

Come on down! The weather here is great right now and a gallon of gas is cheaper than a gallon of milk! I wasn't so lucky when I drove my 89 GT from Ottawa to Dallas last October.

Preparations are well underway for the apprehension, detention and capture of "Louie the Beast"... Placing this monster in protective custody is mission critical and appropriate precautions are being researched/planned/taken. It's not a bad drive, but I wish Darien lived on the Gulf of Mexico so it was a cold, fresh water to warm, salt water adventure, swimming in both on both ends of the trip as a side story, but I digress... Here's the route...

These are serious times to I'll try to be serious, seriously! Total self containment with the exception of fuel is the theme of this adventure. From N-95 respirators, to gloves, to a portable emergency toilet (ok, its a bucket) in the trailer. Note to self, bring a roll of toilet paper! Of course I'll have to keep it in a bomb-proof safe to keep it protected from being stolen (should I take out a special insurance policy on the toilet paper given its extraordinary value?)

Given the possibility that there are long stretches between fuel stops, perhaps even closures, the trailer is also going to be loaded with jerry cans of diesel... Beef jerky and water? Check!

Rest area bathrooms are closed and many gas stations are closed, some truck stops have also closed their bathrooms to the public. Good thing I have a 55 gallon bladder!

Tire pressures all around have been set and checked, coolant, engine oil, DEF and washer fluids are being topped up and readied for the 2,200 mile sprint.

Normally we post about all the cool people and events that rte going on around us while we travel to events. This time I'm afraid I'll be documenting the lack of traffic and empty roads. Either way, We'll see what is actually happening out there on the normally congested roads of America...

We are supposed to get snow here in the chilly north on Monday and its HOT in Texas, so its a trip from Siberia to the Sahara climatologically... Fresh water to the desert, well - sort of ;-)

That's it for this morning... Gotta get those straps ready so nothing escapes!

Safe travels. The thing about Texas weather is, if you don't like it, just wait a couple of hours. Today is a great day to spend time in the backyard....tomorrow the low will be 43.

Darien,

Yes, as a matter of fact... I spent the day re-arranging the shop and pulled this jewell out for you! It's the Prussian Blue over Can Can Red 85...

You will not be 928 less!

Get ready to do a bit of work though, because I bought it needing a torque tube and some other bits... Fortunately, it comes with a spare tube that Constantine has worked his magic on, ready to install. Leather is a little curly as well... Nothing that you can't handle.

Loaded into the trailer and ready for the sprint!

Your wife will love this color combination!
