Literal barn find. Tags expired in '95! Engine compartment was one big mouse nest. Still working on clearing the a/c ducting. Yuck.

In the process of going through all the wiring under the dash and behind the CE to fix chewed on wires. Not too bad, though.

Many light scratches on the hood/fenders, hopefully they'll buff out. One rust spot on rear right window.

Got it running today. Runs strongly and shifts fine around the block.

Brand new 23 year old tires go thump-a-thump.

Who's the U-boat commander?

ANSA cat-back. Meh.

Seats work except for driver recline at the moment. They roll forward all the way automatically when seat back is unlatched!

Original radio works, kinda. (Gets buzzy after a while.) Antenna works.

Clean CE! White plastic, no melted fuses or relay sockets. OMG!

Spare spark plugs!

Odometer and tripmeter do work.

Two owners? Original Oregon delivery, AFAIK. Changed hands at 21K in '86. (Registration and insurance cards from both owners in glovebox.)

So strange. This is the 928 I have always told people what my ideal driver would be. Extremely low option '80 3-spd. And it was in town.

Note that '80 did NOT have a full jump post cover, just a cap, which IS missing. Besides that and the unfortunately missing glovebox manuals, so far it looks like every other original part is still on the car.

Awesome! I assume it's a non-runner at the moment, but the green wire looks good!

Nice grab. It'll be fun to bring it all the way back. It's now in good hands too.

edit...saw the option in the list above... Good choice by the original owner!

"16" phone dials? Thought those were reserved for the 5-sp and the 15" phone dials came on the autos?
Did that change in later years?"

Going by the option list, the 16's were special ordered. 15's would be cool but the 16's look better, I think. Would really like to get some Collezione P7's for it, but will probably just go with some Cooper RS3-A or some such from the local for now.

Too bad the right outside mirror was ordered, too.

Pirelli re-released the P7. The 15" tread pattern looks very similar, the 16's..not so much.

I am going to wait until I'm sure the suspension and alignment is in spec before thinking of putting those on.

Once you get the new tires, It wouldn't hurt to drive this car even though the POs didn't do that very much. These cars benefit dramatically from regular use. :-)

Good to know^^Was at Ameilia Island 3-4 years ago and stopped by the Pirelli booth. On display were there re-released P7's that looked great. Rep told me they we were ready to mfr soon...in certain sizes Another option is to hunt down some original 40+ year old P7's set that will ride like s_ _t and probably cost more than the newer versions. The A/C system still has some pressure! Might be able to get away with just a top-up of R12...until the compressor blows up. I am really spoiled now, even my old GMC has working aircon.

Has a pretty good oil leak off the back of the engine. Hoping it is a rear cam seal but it is probably the rear crank. Have yet to get it on the lift. Still worried about the wiring and obsessing about mice.

I mostly drive the comfy Bimmers around town now but I plan on driving this one regularly once it's sorted, especially since it is an auto. If it all works out I'll probably sell the S4 manual.
