I've been working on the pod, using 'microballoons' (Very tiny hollow glass beads) to fill cracks in the pod...So far it seems to work...But another worm has showed it's ugly head....The foil contacts on the printed circuit sheet have come loose.as in this picture. the foil contacts are loose!!
At first I had a totally dead dash. NO warning lights or instrument function I took it apart (AGAIN) and used crazy glue to reattach them... Now I have warning lights on the left side of the dash only...No warning lights on the right side at start up.. Fuel gage is pegged at "FULL' ( I know it isn't full, 1/2 at most); speedo doesn't register ( seems stuck at 20Mph) On the right side of the cluster, I have NO warning lights, No Oil Pressure or Alt warning lights. No Tach reading, Oil Pressure gauge shows 1 bar and Voltmeter is not working...I didn't drive it enough with no Oil Pressure reading to see if the temp gage is working...
Everything worked when I took it apart to put LEDs in for dash lighting....Some of the plastic Printed circuit has delaminated..This may be part of my problem...Can I just 're-paint' the conductive traces on the P.C.B. ? I have a silver conductive marker pen I can use for this...Or maybe just bypass the bad traces with hard wire??? I'll take some pictures of the PCB when I take it apart (Once Again) tomorrow......Thanks for your help on this
What year is your 928?
For some of the early cars with foil printed circuits on the pod, they are available as replacements.
For others, Roger (www.928srus.com) has a substitute replacement.
I have fixed some of the "peeling" foil contacts at the connectors with carefully gluing, with good results. However, yours looks pretty bad! I'd suggest a replacement, because those are only going to get worse.

I second Jason's advice to replace the PCB. The speedo behavior could be the result of failing solder joints. I've had to make the same repairs on 2 different speedos as detailed in Dwayne's write-up. Of course the PCBs were otherwise usable, or else replacing the PCB would have satisfied the speedo issues. You can diag it with on ohmmeter.
when i take my cluster out, it's about 50/50 chance that when i plug it back together, the contacts won't align properly and i get the pegged fuel gauge. if i recall correctly, it's the middle plug on the back of the gauge cluster?
Thanks guys.. I have an 83 euro 5 speed..The picture is NOT my pc board, but I have a similar problem..I want to get it running well enough to make FRENZY, then I'll tackle it more permanently during "The Fall Stand Down'...more pics to follow...
I stock the replacement foils (board) for the 82 to 84 cars $425. Originals are NLA from Porsche.

I used foil tape from hobby lobby to fix mine. Five bucks for. large roll of 1/8 inch wide. It's self sticking and the sticky backing is conductive. Worked for me and my contacts were really messed up. Takes time but worked. .
I wasn't aware of this until now. What a great replacement for an NLA part, Roger! Just for reference I did a search and found an older thread introducing the product, including some details (like the fact that it works with the dimmer, thumbs up): https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ent-kit-2.html
apples and oranges....
roger's replacement isn't a piece of plastic with fragile printed circuits that will fall apart over time and when touched. seems to me it's a forever component.
I got some copper foil tape from Hobby-Lobby that has conductive glue on the back...Now I just have to plug it in and see if it works if it works; I'm off to FRENZY on Friday AM...;.Here's some before & after pix.The tape was $7.99 for 3/16" x 36 yards!!!

+1
I may be in the minority to say that I think it's fairly priced, too. I have "saved" some PCBs in the past with good results, but I would have pulled the trigger on Roger's replacements in a heartbeat had they been available.
