I would have to agree with Brent, you don't hear "look at that 300ZX!" However, having driven a couple of 300ZX Twin Turbo's, they do perform well, and just replacing the chip can generate over 350HP. Not a bad value, but I wouldn't buy one.

I hate to say it, but he has some good points. I test drove some 300Zs a few years back. They are nice(depending on year), but more of a "transportation" than a real pleasure machine.... like the 928.
One thing that I really disagree with is the engine vibrations thing. A properly running 928 engine is turbine smooth, and pulls like some sort of invisible magnet. There is no doubt that his all of his cars had well worn motor mounts.

So does anyone here know this John M. DePietro of Staten Island?
>> I purchased a CIS EURO S intake/throttle body from John. We agreed upon a price and ship date. I even FedEx'd a check to him. He didn't ship it as promised. After several calls, excuses, and more delay I found that he put the intake on EBAY to see if he could get a higher price. He didn't ship the intake until after the auction closed and no higher bidder was found, over 3 weeks later. Not a very ethical practice in my opinion.

I read over and over again that he says the 928 is harsh. Harsh, virbation prone, and insulateing.
I've never heard it described as such, and mine certanly isn't. Loud, maybe, but that has something to do with the aftermarket exaste.
However, somEthing I have noted in the automotive press. Any car that provides any feed back is labled as "harsh". If you can actualy feel that the steering wheel is conencted to the wheels when you go over small bumps, thats "harsh", or if you can actualy feel exactly how the transmition is working, and weather or not your exactly in gear, or not, thats harsh.
One thing, is the clutch does provides plenty of feed back when you try to make it engage, but it doesn't give you a precice feeling when you try to make it disengage. It's very easy to think you've disengaged the clutch, but have one of the two plates dragging a bit, and then you can't shift gears. As I understand it, if the clutch master cylinder, or slave is not up to par, the clutch is also more likely to drag a bit. I could understand how that would be upsetting. It seems like the 928's start needing new syncros at around 100,000 miles, or about the time they need new clutchs, hum...
Once thing I do know is that the 928 feels "heavy" and some what lethargic. The power steering is set up so that the car doesn't leap at high speeds. As a result, it's not exactly powerful enough to turn the wheels in an extreamly nimble mannor when the engine is down in the rpm, and the speed is a bit lower. The clutch feels heavy, with a long throw. This makes it feel slower. The gear shift also has a long throw, makeing it feel slow. (Thus the short shifter kits.) Add to that the heavy doors, and the vault like feel of the car, and the whole thing just feels heavy. Some people associate that heavy feeling with a feeling of safty. Possibly something Porsche was going for? I know my fiance like that fact. She feels throughly protected from everything.
(And after I've addicently played demolition derby with the car, I can attest to the fact that it in vault like in safty.)

This is hilarious. A lot of what he says about 928's is true. A lot is not. However I found myself reading this and thinking: "Why would I want a Datsun when I can have a Porsche?" ..... look at the photos side-by-side. Look at the brakes and power and torque. Look at the handling. Look at the weight distribution. The most important pieces on the 928 to me, are a concert even as described by him ... but the Nissan is a mish-mash of some excellent and some terrible things and compromises.
For the Porsche 928 there is no compromise.

I believe that John was paying a shop to do the work on his cars , his computer skills far outweigh his automotive skills , in my opinion . The stroker engine program was stillborn . He is certainly entitled to his opinions , they however mean NOTHING to me . It is nice to see him with a new passion . But it is a bit like someone talking about an EX - Spouse .........

I don't mind him bagging on the 928, I'm sure if he and
others praised it, more ricers might try to graduate to them,
and quickly find themselves in over their heads. It's not like
nobody's badmouthed them before, right? You really have to
be fearless about working on it yourself to own one, something
most people are not, and it's only when you take it apart when
you can see how well built it is compared to other cars. I know
what I own, and I own it on purpose.

I don't agree with this guys negative words about the 928, but I am a big fan of the 300Zs. I think the body has aged better than most cars from that era, and the TTs do have a lot of performance potential. I already have too many cars, but I have seriously considered buying one several times in the past.

I suppose he's free to express his opinion, but I have to say I just don't understand it.
I had a '92 Z 2+2 for many years and I truly loved it. What's funny is I've questioned whether the 90's Z borrowed some of it's design from the 928 because some of the elements were very 928-esque.
That said, in my experience, the Z simply doesn't compare to the 928. To me, the 928 drives much more aggressively while being much more comfortable at the same time.
I loved my Z, but I would never give up the pleasure I've had driving and owning my 928.

he wrote me a big letter yesterday. basically, I was using my same old pitch , " holbert car, race car, $7k , set of headers and wheels, running SpeedGT, etc etc yada yada"
he wrote back, i can get 450hp with $1000 and $2500 for brembos. balance is about the same as a 928. and I said, " there you go, right there! there is a $3500 difference all other things being equal"
Nice cars, but ive never seen one that could come close to touching my 928 on the track. ive also riden in nice newish s4s and there ride and comfort is like no other car. "harsh, etc" he is on drugs. oh yeah, what about our
bearing failures and transmissions issues!?
