Lookin' good! Just for clarification on flatness, this is the preferred texture I leave. The photographs are actually pictures from immediately after baking, so no polishing had taken place. Being 50 miles north of Greening Automotive has changed my standard of what I call flat. You're going to end up with a phenomenal quality based on your efforts! Nothing tops a slick 928..

Kiln_Red,
Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. Your photos are very impressive. Ohhh, to have a baking feature in the booth. What a difference that made in getting your clear coat to flow! That is amazing it is before polishing.

For those that did not look closely.....focus in on the reflection of the filter frames on the wall. Look how straight the lines are. And the clarity of those brutal neon blubs!

Default Bid day with bumper covers

A massive thank you to William (Minerva) who spent the day helping with the critical bumper assembly and installation. Things were going swimingly until I broke one of the plastic nuts that hold the headlamp squirter nozzle in place. (Thanks Tom at 928 Intl). We were back on schedule by 3pm.
The entire car is color sanded to 8000. We still need to buff the roof and hear hatch.

Did I mention how burned out I am on that front bumper cover? Fully installed and with no scratches or cracking. A massive relief. Nuts are still just lightly snugged on front bumper.

Mounting bolts are all snugged. We will retighten ever so slightly in a few days. Note the reflection on the roof panel. Ditto rear hatch -this is after 8000 grit 3M sanding and no buffing. Impressive stuff -those modern sanding materials.

what an eye opening experience to witness this process. I happened to be across the street from Miracle Design, the guys that painted Minerva over 3 years ago. I walked in there and thanked them profusely for such an excellent result, and that was prompted because I have had a glimpse into how much work and expertise goes into a quality paint result.
Paul is doing a great job, but he sure has labored to get where he is! Well done!

Perhaps a bit pedantic, but I do that.

Those lights are fluorescent tubes, not neon.

You are absolutely correct, though, that they are some of the most brutal and unforgiving light around. Bright and harsh. Any flaws or imperfections will be very obvious in their glare.

Paul, Rob, et al,

WOW - this is a fantastic job. Everyone involved in the prep and final painting have great patience and skills. So GLAD no one 'harried' Mario about the 'hairy' paint mix.

Cheers guys, and congrats to Paul.

Gary,

Thanks for your kind words and support.

We chose not to include Mario in the hair seance -fearful that he would run for the doors. Patience we have skills some times we learn our limits on projects like these.

We all walked away with elation of the end result and massive respect for just how much effort is involved.

BTW, congrats on the sale of your beautiful 3.8 CSi.

Default First view in direct sunlight

Big day yesterday. After one month of being in the booth, we had a chance to see the real results in direct sunlight. We are elated with how consistent the silver base went down and there are no tiger stripes or modeling. Floresent lighting is tough, but so is direct sunlight. We found many opportunities for touch up.

note the reflection of the roll up door in the background.

Here are some fresh pics from rolling outside and onto the flatbed.

Ladybug888883,
I wish....one week. I can't assemble that fast. The door internals need to be re assembled and that is really slow going to get it right. Thanks for the offer!
Best,

Default Its the details.....Reassembly update

Progress report: 01117 is back in my garage and re-assembly has started. Slowly. Just back from the platers are the rear wiper linkage (in nickel) and the famous 1978 only door lock surrounds. In chrome. These were dizzy expensive but, it is a highly visible part and has to be perfect.

mit, would have loved to have seen^^on our recent trip to Sharktoberfest. Eight years ago, one of the two donor 928's was trailered to 3rd Coast in shambles. Peep's walked right past our the freshly painted Minerva Blue MY94 GTS without a look to get to the wrecked car. Appears people like to view/sit in the 928 in pieces ...as Dan Heber says:" A Pascha Frenzy" outstanding work BTW^^and look forward to seeing her sooner than later T

Herman&Barb 3rd Coast 2011^^
