So i am restoring a 1990 Porsche 928 - and in need of your assistance.

Seems my 1990 - 928 with an air bag - needs the tilt mechanism fixed. The prior owner took it apart and lost one key item.

I am in need of part

928 347 341 01
or
928 347 341 00

it's part # 21 in the diagram below

This may be too good to be true, but Sunset lists the latter as available, for 66 cents.

Yes, just because it is listed as available doesn't always make it so. Porsche's supply chain can be a cruel mistress.

If they end up not having availability, 928 International has taken apart at least a dozen airbag (90-95) cars in the last 20 years I'd venture they haven't sold all the steering columns....

No luck at 928 International either.

Any other suggestions ? Anyone know where i can get the engineering prints so i can have the part fabricated ? I do have an email into Porsche USA.

GTS owners - is this a metal, plastic or rubber part ? It was seriously like a $2 part - when it was available.. I would love a pic if someone doesn't mind crawling under the dash with a camera :-)
I do have the manual and there is a picture in there - but it doesn't have a lot of detail and picture is bad.

Have you tried 928 Specialists and/or 928sRUs?

It's hard to believe 928 International cannot locate the part. Surely they have the column assembly out of dozens of 90+ 928s? Perhaps they can locate the entire mechanism?

Based on this pic I think it's nylon. I will see how hard it is to get out of there for measurements, am a little nervous about the Rube Goldberg spring holding it in at the rear.

This place is awesome -

I have the length measurement - and it looks to be just larger than the handle that slides through the middle of it.

From what i can tell from this pic - it looks like this is the closed position.

Can you snap one with it open ? lever is pointed down.

This is per the 928 manual - trying to figure out how the taper in the middle works ? Is it sloped as you twist the lever ? or is it just a transition to a smaller diameter that fits in the next part ? Is it only tapered on one side of the piece ?

Worf928 - I have tried all the usual places (928 international / 928rUS etc)
I have also tried maybe half a dozen suppliers - all show the part available, until you order it - without any luck.

It looks like a part that i can fabricate - if i can get enough detail / few pics of it.

It's basically a 35.6 mm long cylinder with a 10.08 mm hole driller through. The cylinder is 14.98 mm in diameter at the rear-most 21.9mm, and 13.95 mm in diameter along the forward-most 13.7 mm, so there's a ~1mm eccentric 'shelf' at the transition. I think the bore has worn at the rear end, so the wall thickness along the 'narrow' side of the bore is down to 1.65 mm at the rear while it's 1.93 mm at the front. It took about 90 seconds to liberate this from the car, if anyone is wondering.
