Head was milled, major carbon build up, diffrence pistions, wrong pistions.
The shop could be wrong however. They say the engine has not been taken apart. I'd like to know how they came to the conclusions that the valves are bent. If I only had 600 dollars.
Anyone want to go in on a bussness deal?

Many shops are more familiar with 944s ...They Assume that a broken belt ALWAYS means bent valves and they stop looking . They just want this "car" to go AWAY .......

i have an 85 euro engine that i am trying to get into my 80 euro in time for the event in sebring in feb on the engine stand. i thought since i have the belt off i would rotate the crank by hand and see if i get any resistence. i was gentle to avoid injury to a valve and to my amazment, no resistence.
it just turned and i felt no resistence. cams were at the top dead center location. rotated crank 360 degrees.

Glenn, are you keeping the LH injection with the 85 Euro engine, or are you swapping the CIS to it? I installed an 84 Euro engine into my 80 US and adapted the electrical to run with the LH injection. Let me know if you need any advice.
Anyway, when I rebuilt the motor and rotated the crank while on the stand, no timing belt installed, I could feel the piston just start to touch a valve. I was rotating it VERY SLOWLY. Didn't turn it any further.
Rich.

I guess that's the simplest and easiest way to tell.
People always want to know.
Well, next time you do a timing belt replacement, turn the engine over by hand, and check the results...
Seems a lot simpler than all the debates people have about it from time to time...
