MSDS Header Version
I just stumbled into a brand new set of MSDS headers seen here:
MSDS lists Gen 2 headers on their website. How do I know what version I have?
Thanks/

I am toying with the possibility of putting them on my 87. The engine is on the engine stand and ready to go back in.
Should I install with the headers? And does that calculus change if the car is a five speed? Will the clutch pack fit past them?
As luck would have it the rest of the drive train is on the ground while I wait for the transmission to return from having the rear main seal and o-ring replaced and installing an upgraded torque tube with super bearings. Given that can i install the engine, headers and clutch pack as a single unit and then slide torque tube and the transmission into place?
Musing...

I've seen those long tube headers installed on 16v cars and no, they must be installed after the engine is in and they also need to remain loose in-order to install the clutch pack.
As you have the eng on a stand, just do a mock up and see, as they may be different, however unless you install the eng from below, they won't pass down and through.
As far as the TT and trans go, yes install the eng. and the TT and trans can go in afterwords, having the he clutch pack installed depends, it is easier IMO just to do it after the TT is bolted up.
Single disk, right?

Hey Kevin, did you ever end up installing these MSDS headers. If not and you still have them, I'd be interested in buying them from you for my 16v 79. Thanks.

They're 32 valve version.

My '80 had MSDS headers and they seemed to have added a bunch more power, some say 30%. They made the car sound terrific. The downside is that they are not friendly to clutch replacement for you have to damn near pull them off in order to get the bell housing out. Note to self, clutch replacement first then headers.
I spoke to the MSDS rep at Monterey a few years back and he told me that for 16v cars they offer a huge improvement. No so much on 32 valve cars.
I do have headers on my 86.5, but when Jake made them under the direction of GB he built them around the bell housing so we could get to the clutch. Because I have S4 valves and a bunch of other stuff headers were a logical step just to make it breathe. No idea if they add any more power

I have a line on some SS 85/86 versions that seems like it will be a nice improvement without the clutch issues of the MSDS ones, so probably going in that direction.
