Oil change for the race car and i found this.....
I was doing my pre-race Amsoil oil change along with the trans oil change (redline) and this came flying out of the oil stream as it fell into the drain pan.
it looks like a winder of a watch...... or the adjuster clamp screw for a dial indicator.
the only people that have seen the engine without its clothes on , are Tim and Todd, and Bill . Bill, you missing a winder from your watch?
last time i saw "things" coming out in my oil was when i was losing cam sprocket teeth back in the early 2000s.
anyone know that this could be?
weird!

a dial indicator or vernier caliper setscrew is most probable.
a watch **** has a longer shaft to pass through the watch case.
In any case its not going to do much as its too big to pass through the oil screen, so it will roll around on the bottom of the pan

that was my first guess.
but it looks like it has been in there a long time, and has a gold plated finish that is worn off.
that little piece has seen some action!
thats what i was thinking, but my digital caliper seems to have the set screw on it. (more narrow of a set screw head)
good point about the watch set screw.
any other guesses?
thats a good one!

maybe that free quart of oil at the race track wasn't such a nice gesture from your race buddies?

hahah ...
Hey Fred, you might be on to something. what if someone at the amsoil plant lost it.... i dont have a filer strainer like the 84s use to have.
what if??????? what if it just poured out from a sealed amsoil container. its not mine my watch has its winder....... no one but Bill and I have seen the engine internals. (but erik, todd and tim)
and ive never opened the valve covers since the engine was put together and installed. very weird

Mark, can you put a dime or nickel under it so we can get a good idea of its actual size?

As dial indicators are often used around engine top ends, I'll bet that is where that set screw comes from, and if it does, you might also be on the lookout for the other part in this picture. Some dial indicators have an external bezel locking clamp, some don't, but it would be easy to miss if it were somewhere in the bottom of the sump. And Mark, thanks for the Xmas greetings- Happy New Year to you and yours!

Here you go!! definitely a little larger than a watch winder, and smaller than caliper set screw.
