Not significant enough to warrant a set screw.

I'll have to check my dial indicator to see if something is missing. However, i dont think they every gold plate them, right?
the mystery continues.

Fools gold. Looks to me more like the chrome or nickel plating has worn off revealing the brass that it is made out of.

It also looks like almost an exact match for the one shown in Martin's post.

Nope, all parts accounted for on his end!

He also delivered the engine short-block only (no heads) and without the oil pan installed.

and i wouldnt doubt that at all. I'm thinking Bill is missing his winder off his watch. i only have one watch, and its winder is in tact.
Jerry makes a good observation. that side adjuster, looks to be the proportions. ill check my dial indicator again. that engine was sealed up after we put on the heads and pan.
Bill and I are the only ones that saw this engine under the kimono

That sir is the safety set screw for restraining 2/6 rod bearing detonation! Apparently only found on your motors as placed there by a mysterious wizard. Put it under your pillow for the next several nights and hope it finds its way back into your motor, or else!

Not quite the same but I found this one by accident on the garage floor. Makes adjusting for the two minute per week loss a challenge.

2 minutes per week??? I though this watch hand a quality time piece in it.

It's already been in once for repair for the screw crown not staying locked. At the time I was told that two minute loss per week was pretty good for that type of movement. It didn't take long for the crown to start popping out again and it must have caught on something and broken off. I just put tape over the hole as it's more comfortable to wear without the crown anyway. I really need to plan out adjustments: First I have to set it down and let stop. Then there are two opportunities per day to start it up again. Depending on when it stopped, sometimes I'll give it a little bump to stop at a more convenient time for restart.

Not to hijack thread but it could have easily broken off when I had cam covers off and I may have found it during oil change.
