3.5 year update, since I am seeing people post on the Facebook pages about doing this mod.

I almost forget that I have these calipers installed now since I'm so used to them. My main update is that the RedStuff pads are JUNK in my opinion. After a few months of running these pads, the grabbing force felt like it dropped off a cliff. I thought maybe the pads were somehow contaminated but there was nothing obviously spilled on them and the problem did not resolve itself after intensive braking. Perhaps their special "break in" coating had been worn through and the base material is just very lackluster.

Other work on the braking system has been a new master, booster (original one had a vacuum leak in 2017) and new rotors.

I switched to OEM Volvo pads and the brakes have been better than ever. So my USD 0.02 would be to save your money and get Volvo OEM pads and see how you like them. Other than that this brake setup is doing great after several years of street use.

I was able to finally get the rotor to caliper clearance problem resolved on my two Volvo ABS calipers. The right one was easy as pie to acquire in the ABS type with only one line. The left one not so much. Girling stopped making these caliper assemblies in this configuration. I FINALLY found one in a junk yard near Boston. ( had called multiple junk yards in California, Arizona and Texas trying to find one. NOPE. Sent it out and had it rebuilt. Then after modifying the backing plate, (which I expected) and grinding out and enlarging the rotor trough (which I sorta expected) I finally got them to bolt up. So happy with this. My stock AZ pads drop right in. This pretty well gets all the brake rotor/caliper problems resolved and I can finish hooking up the flex lines and charging/bleeding the system.

Default Re: rear calipers?

Hi new here, was wondering does the 240 rear calipers bolt onto early 944 as well. Great info here save lots $$$ from all the inputs here. Thanks.

Hi has anyone ever found out if the Volvo 240 calipers would bolt up to the rears as well? Thanks.

No, they don't. The front 944 NA has a narrower spread between the mounting bolts (about 76mmm for the front and 95mm for the rear). I'm making adapter brackets for 951 Brembo for the front of my 944 NA. Rear 951 Brembo are bolt-on.

So I upgraded today, was able to find a left Volvo 240 single port caliper to make a set. Noted the brake line comes straight out instead of pointing up so I went with a 90 degree banjo union and banjo bolt so the line would point up like a stock caliper. mfcpinc.com sell them BQ61 banjo union 10x23mm-M10x1 and BQ 8095 banjo bolt M10x1x22mm L with four 10mm copper washers. This allows you to point the brake line up like the stock caliper. I used new SS braided lines and Speed Bleeder so I can do it by myself. I went with Hawk pads for the 240.
ran low on DOT 4 so that limited how much I could bleed them. Good pressure and will drive it a few days and bleed both front and rears so the whole system has fresh fluid.
I do not expect much change in braking but they look right!

All done.

Brake line pointing up like the stock one.

Default Volvo calipers

I have had no problems from my calipers. My local Aeroquip dealer had a set of 911? Special SS lines that I tried. Pointed straight up and they work great.

I did this swap years ago and have yet to be able to drive on them. That being said, can anyone explain to me why you need a left and right and not just two of one or another?!

Default Bleed valve position…

The bleed valves need to be at the top of the caliper. Swapping a left caliper to the right side reverses the bleeders to the bottom position (and vice-versa).
