Default Hood material

I was wondering what the hood was made out of on the 944.

I just wondering becasue in comparison to friends hood's on random car's it seems lighter.. Maybe my hood shocks are messing with my mind.

Material seems thick... (not cheap and thin) but still light? I never checked if it was magnetic. I am in ohio now so maybe can post what its made out of.

Hood = engine cover?? (the english language is confusing sometimes...)
Then steel sheet.

the 944 is made out of a thick galvanized sheet metal, from germany keep in mind. Alot of cars from america/japan etc. are made from a lighter gauge metal, believe me, ive cut into a few cars before. This may explain why 944's rarely rust out.

When my shocks were out, it took a small act of congress to work under the hood. Considering GT-Racing's CF hood (I didn't see any latch provisions, will they work?) amoung other things.

hmm...carbon fiber hood + hood shocks....that hood would just fly up. Better keep the latch in good shape, hehe.

I thought of that last night, I'd better get fly-weight duty shocks.

Yes, these hoods are a type of metal- I've argued w/people before whp have said that they are made of fiberglass- even some magazine articles have said it- they are NOT fiberglass- they WILL hold refrigerator magnets all day long, so are metal of some sort...

My hood felt pretty heavy when the shocks were shot. Definately not alluminum or some kind of lightweight alloy On the gt-racing website they have 944's hood weight at 79 pounds. Seems like a god place to save weight
