Water leak from battery box causing stall?
It really rained here yesterday & my '86 951 started jerking, eventually the engine stalled, though it would restart and run for a few minutes if left for 20 minutes or so. While waiting for the tow truck, I noticed that the passenger side footwell was a bit wet and noticed some water on the DME connector once I pulled the carpets back.
Is this a common issue ... can a wter leak from the battery tray area actually cause the car to stall? (I opened the DME boxes and could not find water in the circuitry).
I pulled the battery and noted that it has already been repaired with fiberglass once before. Anyone have any recommendations on making these repairs again - what sort of fiberglass & resin etc? Should I just have it welded up?
I also thought of relocating the battery to the trunk (same as in my Alfa Romeo GTV6 so it must be okay from a safety perspective).
Anyone done this?
Cheers,
Michael

Yes. Take out the DME, open it up and make sure there is no water inside.
Pull the battery grind out the fiberglass and reseal the area.
Leave the battery where it is.

There's a drain in the bottom of the battery box that must be left open or water will get inside the car when the box fills up. Make sure the PO didn't seal that drain as part of the "fix".
