1989 944 rubbing noise hard left turn only
im having a rubbing noise when i make a hard left turn (enough to make the tires squeal) normal turning no noise, i found the right cv joint bad replace it, still have the noise, have not checked the left cv,thought maybe the cat converter shifting over and rubbing on the underbody heat shield not much clearance, no evidence of tire rub in the wheel well, spun the tires no sound of a wheel bearing going bad, engine motor mounts replaced,Does anyone have any ideas what else I can look at, doesnt make the noise making hard right turns

noise seems to be coming from back right, factory wheels and stock size tires 15 in phone dials, no lsd sounds like a rub no clicking replaced cv axle on right side

Check the tires for fender or rear shock wear marks on the tires, inside and outside. I know it sounds absurd because you have stock tires and wheels but if your suspension is collapsing the tires will point you in the right direction.

Could the rear suspension bushings be so shot that the tire is rubbing something?
I wonder if some previous mechanic put the "nut end" of the upper shock bolt facing the wheel, rather than facing the transmission?
Only a little bit wider but maybe just enough to rub the sidewall.

Rubbing noise gone , here is my story...Well, i put away the search for the rubbing noise for a while because of a leaking fuel rail at the bracket for the 3rd time i knew i had another issue, researched to find its from vibration from either worn engine mounts or the balance shaft mis-clocked. replaced the engine mounts and it was due for a timing/balance shaft belt replacement so i discovered the lower balance shaft sprocket clocked wrong, replaced belts clocked the balance shaft sprocket correctly, wow what a difference smooth, now i dont have that exhaust rattle in the 3-4k rpm. after it sat for a couple of months i now was ready to tear it up. Low and Behold the rubbing noise went away, was it a fluke? now im purposefully making hard left turns to the point of drifting and its gone. so I surmise that the rubbing noise must have come from excessive vibration where there may be a close tolerance between the engine and body, or exhaust to heat shield where they touched. thanks for your help....Rob
