Default Turbo an na car

So I wanted to just get some more information from people on this, I have a 1983 NA Porsche 944, and sometime in the not so near future I would like to make it substantially faster. Now I know most people here will say that if I want a faster NA just buy a 951, but this is not the answer I am looking for, I am not interested in what makes the most sense financially, so please don't answer with that.

Anyway, I am interested in having that engine rebuilt and then turbocharged, but I first want to ask a few questions about that.

First I want to try and bore the engine to 3L (hope I'm using the right term there). Is this even possible on the NA and can it be made reliable and safe?

Then the usual port, polish, etc... will be done to it. After that I want to turbo charge the thing, but again, can this be done reliable and safe? One last reminder, money isn't the concern, so when I ask if it's possible to make it reliable I literally mean possible, not sensible.

Now I am assuming this would require a swap to the turbo trans, is that right?

I love my 1983 944, and it's got decent power as is, but eventually I want to dump lots of money into this (instead of a new car) to make it faster, but wanted to see just how far I can go if money is "no issue" (I mean were talking like 20K being close to the max here).

Is there anything else I would need for the swap?

And one final side question, is there anything I can do for cheap (ie under 1000 bucks) to make the NA a good amount faster in the meantime?

Thanks in advanced for any help!

Edit: oh and if the 3L mod and turbo were done, is it still going to be at least a semi smooth engine? For daily driving that is.
When going to focus induction on anything one of the many considerations is forged internals heavy duty head gaskets and dropping the engines compression enough to make the forced induction as efficient as possible then consider that the transmission in your 944 will not hold up to the hp and torque you want to put through it so it has to be replaced your entire fuel system has to be revamped and your ecu either replaced or remappped if money was no issue yes it could be redone but your talking about a major undertaking and years of searching or having custom parts fabricated and people who have high hp and torque cars (like myself) don't get to drive them all the time because they tend to be ........ terminally unhinged creations that are highly temperamental and don't like anything but sunny days

Best zero punctuation, run-on sentence ever.

No way a 4-banger is going to give me that aural orgasm, let alone the speed.

By the way, your view of an American V8 with no top end is disproven. Please see the latest Ford Coyote Engines, and Chevy Gen IV and V LS engines. Come back and talk after the research and engineering involved in getting a V8 to shriek that is still pushrod, or a 32v Ford Modular engine.
Link to 944 w/ shrieking US V8 not opening? Personally, I don't have a problem with the LS or whatever V8 motors. I just don't like them in a small European sports cars. Seems such a dichotomy to me.

Sure, there are few i4s that are going to make a delicious noise. It's an acquired taste. The twin cam ones seems to sound a bit nicer. But with modern ECUs and offset grind motors etc there's no shortage of reliable power. We made 650bhp / 610ft-lbs on our 3.1ltr without boosting it anywhere near what the Jap cars do. Look to make noticeably more than that with incoming motor.

Regarding reliability, it always comes down to tuning, and likewise on V8.

Haven't had any reliability issues with my 924 and I have not babied it either, actually quite contrary.
But having Porsche engine running at 500+hp is much more fun factor than running a boring american V8 with ancient tech running like a diesel with anemic top tend.
the limiter on my 968 engine was 6500.

the limiter on my short stroke LS7 is 6800 running an oem LS9 cam.

it also has an aluminum flywheel. and it purrs smoothly like a happy tiger at idle.

with camming that number can easily go as high as 8000 with this forged engine.

in fact, here's one going a bit over 8000 running virtually the same internals.....

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/vem...oke-of-genius/

with the over-bore design and light flywheel she spools up in a few milliseconds.

what do you really hate? ain't my engine man.

you need to hate something really worth hating - like ISIS.

Bob Norwood could turbocharge an NA the right way (since we're so far OT now anyway).

Are you alluding to me as KKK? This is the funny thing about most foreigners. You really don't know jacksh*t about who Americans are. Newsflash...I am not 100% white, or Aryan like you assume. Just like you assume that LS-swapped cars are crap. Get your head out of the sand...dingos will bite your *** when you are un-attentative.
