Default 944 3 piece crossmember... WOW!

Am I ever impressed with the QUALITY & DESIGN of R7 Racing & Restoration's 3 piece 944 crossmember!

Those who have performed a rod bearing change or oil pan gasket replacement know the flaws of the one piece.

The welds are professional grade. The quality can't be beat. R7 even supplies the fasteners.

Thank you very much Jason Gonzalez & the hard working crew at R7 Racing & Restoration!

Also here are some articles written by Jason:

Nice looking unit, I'm interested in one of these when my 951 goes back together. May I ask what you paid for this? I dont know if this unit is beefier/has more fastening points than LR's 3 piece unit, but I've heard of guys having issues with them, mainly with them not staying together.

Doug, as I recall there were a few people who got cracks at the welds...don't know what the cause was, but it's hard to get a good weld with cast aluminum (porous and dirty) like the crossmember is made of.

I do think the people with issues were racers though, so I imagine their crossmember sees a lot of load from the hard turns (think about it - it's directly connecting the two wheels that are trying to get torn apart by G's in a turn)

Really? This is the first time I've heard of problems with the lindsay units. The R7 has 4 or five bolts per joint. Price was surprisingly reasonable but I can't recall the price... at the time we did some other deals. You'd have to contact Jason. You can tell him Noah sent you. You need to send him a clean core.

They should do a 924 version as well.

I have been wondering if anyone does it for these cars. Good ol' steel member.

To pull the pan, does the engine need to be lifted or the cross member dropped?

Also use the DIY from Skip at Paragon Products

You need to drop the crossmember, the engine will stay at its place because unlike the 944 the 924 engine hangs from the frame of the car and does not rest on the crossmember.
The bad thing is that you have to go for a front wheel alignment after you put the crossmember back as you will have affected the geometry.

I have not taken my 924Ss to an alignment shop in 20 years.

I have replaced my PS rack, new engine mounts many times, a recent rod bearing change...

One of a few DIYs:

I think morghen is referring to the 2.0 924 with respect to how it goes together.
