When Porsche discontinued the 944 steering shafts last year, NOS stockpiles flew off the shelves. People were buying used ones for over $100 and others started offering rebuild services in the $200+ range. Crazy times, but all that's over now.

No manual options at this time. I think you can get just the splined shafts from Summit Racing in the correct manual length. You could then swap over the ends, if you were so inclined. They are swagged in place, not welded so removal would be possible. I haven't tried it yet so just speculation.

Any reason you couldn't do manual shafts? Just worried about order quantity? Seems like there are still plenty of good used power shafts out there, but the manual shafts are going extinct.

From what I can gauge by the talk on this BBD and others, it is the manual ones the market needs. I know I'm in that boat for my project. I have a 'sport' manual rack, but am in need of a steering shaft for it. At present I am planning to just have a power steering version modified to work, but a purpose built manual shaft would be well worth the money to me. If these are newly produced shafts, commissioned by you, a simple spec on the length of the shaft would have them ready to sell and answer demand.

I just did a search for 'Synamas Products Group' and wasn't able to find any information on them. Are these things coming from China?

If you do decide to offer a manual rack versions, I'd definitely be in for one even at the non-sale price. My intermediate shaft has only a tiny amount of play but seeing as these have been NLA for a long time, I'd love to replace with new if I could.

You caught me!! Synamas is a collaboration between myself and a few others, actually from Rennlist as well. We do mostly contract manufacturing but moving to some in house products, like this one.

I am just a humble re-seller this time and technically these are made by "Synamas, llc." But if you're worried about quality though, these are just as good as any of my Rennbay products. You will not be disappointed.

If you guys really want the manual ones I'll see what it will take to reshaft them to the correct length. Everything here has been assembled and packaged for sale so it's not just a matter of buying a longer shaft.
But, if that's what you guy's need I'll figure something out.

Nice work Travis. I had no idea our cars had problems with the steering shaft. I have two Turbo's and both still seem tight but are still rather low mileage cars. Is there a certain mileage where people are feeling slop in their shafts? Just curious...

It happens a lot of the time and people don't know it. It shows u as slop in the steering wheel side to side and they think "tie rods."
It's harder on the Turbo models but the easiest way to check is to reach in and grab the center of the shaft and give it a little twist back and forth. If there is any free radial play then your's is starting to go.

These should start showing up in the next few weeks at all the usual parts outlets and they shouldn't run out of stock any time soon. When you're ready, they'll be there.

that's a good price. I paid around 300 US last year for a new manual shaft (got it off a reenlister). There were no other good options, the ones sold on 944 online are welded and for an important steering component i wouldn't feel safe using one.

i'm guessing these will sell fast at this price. all 944s with original shafts will have bad joints by now. mine had a ton of play both in my manual shaft and the power steering one i took out.

People pay good money for manual shafts, mine is 155k and still tight but I would order one from you at that price.

If you offered the manual shaft for $125 I would be throwing money at you. I have a manual rack in my garage, but the shaft it came with is shot and I'm not comfortable with paying $200+ for a questionable rebuild.

If you guys want the manuals I need more than just a few posts. Start a group buy on them and get me 50 people @ $75 each with a $20 deposit up front and I will make it happen. Fair enough?
