hahaha MGJ. Well, ***** & I love you even if you dis-own us.
BACK ON TRACK TODAY:
Making Light-the hard way.
Drilling "speed holes" is not fun. And as we saw from my old bumper... you can make things look ugly. Well not this time.
Decided to fully weld the joint in case I ever use these mounts as an anchor instead of the bolted on rescue hook which was installed last week.

Although I never wanted to see "checker plate" on Wilson the semi-race car... it can serve well in a couple of areas. Here is the little adapter plate I made for the hold down to mount where the pins used to on the hatch. The sheet metal ones I made bend too easy.

The other reasons why I wanted to rise before dawn was: drive the new route I found. Wicked curves man. Much better driving when nobody is around. And perhaps hit the skate board park before all the kids are there (I'm not very good, and yeah I'm 40 years old... really self conscious around all these kids that have much more skill than I do). Check out the mountains in the background.

Concluded that we now have satellite radar Which I don't prefer. I have to shut my (legal) radar detector off, because it's warning me when I'm all alone in the middle of nowhere. It takes fun out of these Sunday drives. Googled it. Its REAL! : http://www.tomsguide.com/us/GPS-Spee...,news-6554.htm...
So, I turned off the highway & followed the dirt &, clay & skinny gravel road leading who knows where.
I love this pic of *****. Wilson the rally car
Naw he aint no off road rally car. On road rally I think he'd do good at.

Now this was a pretty incredible road because it was twisty. Super scenic. Farm trucks, animals, pot holes, soft earth, ponds nearly flooding the road from both sides... and to really make matters interesting, the darn sun was brightly shining directly into the cab. Had to slow down to 2nd gear & putt putt putt just barely seeing 5 meters in front of the hood. But that's mother nature for you. There soon was enough bends in the road & rocky foothills stretching to the sky that I was able to actually drive. Drove for like an hour in 3rd gear. Speed limit is 80. The 2.5 litre inline 4 is more than happy to rev to suit the speeds ranging from 60 to 90. Once in a while I'll pop it into fourth, but it's a bit tall. 3rd on the other hand aligns each vertebrae from your buttcheeks to your atlas when you press it down, and restores order with engine braking when you get nervous. The spider gears in your differential are spinning too much, you really should have an LSD. The stock springs & torsion bars a just perfect in this environment; Not too stiff. not too soft. And the brakes are as firm as ever. You punch the brakes to check the reaction of the car on this washboard gravel surface.*Its a bit sketchy... but sketchy is fun.

Most Porsche driver's wouldn't take their nice cars on these roads. Check out the amount of gravel near the tires. Say goodbye to your nice paint job :-/
Wilson doesn't mind really. He knows he'll get another coat in 2 years.
I'm always nervous about loosing control in the corners with this amount of gravel. My bud was driving once in his jeep. Washed out. disengaged the throttle & over counter steered. 15 minutes later we were getting his wet Jeep towed out of a lake.
I'm "delicate" in the corners on this stuff. With the deep ditches in this provence I'm happy *****'s got a rollbar.

Noticed a tiny weeny bit of rubbing between a brake line & fuel line. Shame on me for not isolating earlier. Found some small vacuum hose & split it with a razor. fits like it was made for it!

Anybody else... have you removed the heat shield between the muffler & the gas tank? My dansk muffler is much smaller. There is 3" inches (80mm) of clearance between those two objects now. Took it off last weekend. Don't like how it limits access to the top of transaxle.
A bit nervous for hot days in traffic mind you.
