Drove to work in the snow without the rear bumper yesturday. Now if I can lose the front bumper that'll be some real weight savings. LOL!

Wilson's rough start and intermittent idle problem hasn't improved whatsoever. I keep throwing parts at this thing... but I try not to stress about it. It's been like this for 2 years.

Going to hook up the resister. Yesturday it was flooding on start up. Had to nurse it to start & the AFR read 10:1 until it warmed up. Sure wish someone could tell me what it should be on start up.

After it warmed up & ran on it's own... what a great commute. Not very slippery on the road, but just enough snow to show respect. What's in my TOP LIST of favourite late model 944 features? The HVAC system. Man, the defrost is better than any other I've used, and if you are chilled, like I was yesturday, you just dial the heat all the way up & have that heavenly warmth blow on your face & hands. Feels like a spa.

The HVAC system stays. Porsche you made a great car.

What do you mean "rough start"? Like its hard to start, or sounds horrible when you start, like it's miss firing? Is your bell housing notched?

Hard start. When even remotely close to chilly. Have to modulate the gas pedal to prevent it from dying & then it sounds like it might be misfiring.

By "notched" are you referring to the ref sensor area. I did notch that when I did the clutch.

Ever since I did the clutch I've had this hard start. Thought it was the grounding but have been over that since. Am starting to think it might be the ref sensors. (I set them to .020" if not mistaken-whatever is suggested on Clarks site.)

Check the vacuum too. You might have an intake leak that closes up a bit when it warms up. Also fuel pressure check to verify that too. I had a hot start problem that I chased for a year and it was fuel pressure.

Interesting. No vacuum leaks found with propane. Checked twice. Fuel pressure though. Hmmm. Thanks for the heads up.

Removed rear shocks. Drained them. WOW, they sprayed explosively. Don't point them at your good eye-when drilling to relieve pressure before cutting. Gross.

WHY? Because loose 10 pounds and stiffen chassis.

Used angle grinder with cut off wheel & then a hack saw to separate. Once you cut the outer tube wall, then you simple wiggle the piston out. And you are done with the tough stuff. Cleaned up both sides for the mig.

THIS IS WHERE NOT TO WELD. Whoops. Cost me another morning to fix my error of fully welding on the INSIDE. Bad move James Brown.

I friggen HATE to smell of grinders. That is the main reason why I don't go to welding school. Well, that and health concerns.

Cut the fronts of these corner pieces 1.5", but will still need to trim a bit & then fab a different mounting set up. Note the direction I'm pulling the tape so it doesn't take paint with it. The pinch clamp on wood was the improved mounting surface. Not seen is the leather gloves & face shield/ear pro.

1st thing: feeling good about the "factory spec" alignment at Fountain Tire. Great value for the money. Way more accurate & easier that trying the alignment at home (again).

IDLE problems continue but lessening because the weather is warmer. Curse of the Celebration edition? Maybe... but in searching for "rough start"... there are a lot of us '44 owners that have similar problems. I have replaced coil/rotor/leads, Idle Air Control Valve, related rubber hoses, TPS, swapped out ecms/chips, and on & on...

Am willing to try ref sensors. After that it's fabricate engine harness(es?).

(AFTER THAT, I might remove the idle air control valve. Delete some air lines. And adjust my TB screw for the season. Hopefully less is more, but with varying loads of AC/lights/heater motors I hope it can be okay.)

My thought last year is install a choke cable like on carb'd vehicles. Why not, eh? But first -maybe this weekend- I'll put the dimmer switch in.

We live with it & pray the idle gods are in a good mood.

As you already know from the other board we frequent, you have done something I never could have to my own Jubilee/ Celebration 944.......

I just don't know.... do the cold winters really have that much of an an effect on a guy ?

MGJ, how nice to see you buddy!

Although some of Wilson's mods are not "tasteful"... particularly to collectors and purists... I suppose Wilson is too busy kicking *** to notice.

Thanks brother.

Right now, Wilson's power to weight ratio is 20-30% improved over stock. All with easy to find 8 valve parts. Brakes are great. Steering feel is improved. The chassis is stiffer.

Honestly I think the basic/stripped down sort of car is what Porsche had in mind, before the fashion police division/marketing division took over.
